Search Architect at Grid Dynamics (San Francisco, CA)

Grid Dynamics, a leading provider of search solutions for world’s largest and most successful companies, is looking for a Search Architect to join our client search team. Search architect participates in design and development/improvement of search solutions based open source technology stack.


Responsibilities: 



  • Understand business goals and issues to be solved;

  • Identify technical opportunities at the account

  • Investigate and analyze business and technical problems (application architecture), requirements for new solution;

  • Design a new solution architecture and defend this in front of the client

  • Collaborate with infrastructure, application development, testing, release engineering, and production operations teams;

  • Participate in Sales and Presales activities

  • Plan phases of client journey towards the final architecture state;

  • Lead the engineering team through the implementation;

  • Provide technical governance and sign off on engineering team deliverables;

  • Establish Standards, policies, and procedures within the application architecture domain.


A search architect works with all levels of client personnel from executive level to individual engineers. Internally, a search architect guides Grid Dynamics delivery team and ensures compliance of the implementation with the architecture. While spending most time at a client’s office, the architect also participates in internal Grid Dynamics activities. These activities include training, knowledge sharing, technology pre-sales, creation of blueprints and case studies, and participation in outbound thought leadership activities, like writing blogs and attending conferences.

Requirements:


To be successful in the role, a search architect needs to be highly motivated in achieving high business value with technology. We require 5+ years of relevant experience in information technology in the senior roles related to Search.


The candidate should be able to demonstrate experience with/in:



  • Client-facing roles

  • Developer’s foundation: CS, modern Java ecosystem, Linux based OS, modern engineering processes, CI/CD

  • Search engineer’s foundation: Information retrieval theory, Apache Lucene/Solr/Elastic Search/Endeca for at least 3 years

  • Architect’s foundation: Design of highly loaded, distributed, horizontally scalable, low latency applications, cloud-based deployment and operations.

  • Deep understanding of e-commerce search: customer-facing features, merchandising, master data management, metrics, and KPIs.  

  • Investigating and solving performance issues.


While it is not necessary to have expert knowledge of every tool, process, and technology in the spectrum, it is required to have a strong working knowledge of a subset of the technologies above. Broad awareness of the business problems and at least one solution is essential, coupled with a willingness to learn and expand the knowledge.
