Technical Team Lead at Surevine (London, UK) (allows remote)

THIS ROLE IS ONLY OPEN TO UK APPLICANTS

In Surevine, we build autonomous teams underpinned by co-operation and trust. Those teams thrive on open and honest engagement between team-members; we are upfront and challenge each other which builds closely-knit teams.

For our teams to be truly autonomous, we need great Team Leaders: peers who can coach, rather than manage. Someone to take on the role of Scrum Master, spot areas for development in the team and keep the minds of people in their team focused on the work-at-hand.

Interested?

Skills / Experience

Engineering > Whether it is design, development, testing or devops, you need to be hands-on and passionate about maintaining your technical skills.

Lead > You’ll have 5+ years experience helping teams reach their potential and delivering great technology using agile principles.

Remote > Remote team working is different to being co-located every day; you’ll appreciate this as your remote working experience will demonstrate.

The job

Scrum Master

Projects are brought to teams, and teams deliver those projects with a high degree of autonomy.  The Team Lead is part customer facing; agreeing communications, project and sprint backlogs – in much the same way that a Scrum Master role is classically defined. They will report progress, dependencies and impediments not only to the customer but within Surevine, and will monitor and control project spend.

Performance Manager

The Team Lead is responsible for building a strong, enduring and cross-functional team. As such they are pivotal in supporting the development and performance of individual team members. Individual development is influenced by three factors: their strengths and potential talents; the needs of the team and our strategic direction.

Engineer

The Team Lead will have a background in Agile software engineering. The Team will look to the Team Lead to assist decision making in terms of design, technology choice, processes and practices. Hands-on, they should be comfortable at the coal-face. The Team Lead will provide the team with clear vision and direction for any engagement.

Node.js Backend Engineer at Tessian (London, UK)

NODE.JS ENGINEERING AT TESSIAN

Our Node.js team are building a scalable infrastructure for processing email traffic in real-time (and you can read an article by our Node.js team lead about building an email load tester in Node.js here). You'll be an experienced software engineer with a strong interest in developing backend services in Node.js. Our stack includes core Node.js, Docker, AWS/Azure, and Postgres, amongst others and you'll be helping to build a new generation of dependable AI-based enterprise security.

Unlike most Node.js roles we're using this technology to execute some pretty low-level concepts and we're drilling down to fundamentals. This isn't an Express app or a full-stack web role; we're building a core, high-performance backend to support Tessian's cybersecurity platform. You'll make a big impact in a small team, with opportunities to drive our future technology, mentor other developers and solve business-critical issues.

You'll be a great thinker and have the ability to plan, question, suggest and explain - skills we value as highly as your ability to write solid, dependable code. As part of our team, you'll be collaborating with our Data Scientists who are building new machine learning threat models, architecting our application to scale with our growing client base, diagnosing critical issues and contributing to planning and architecture discussions.

WE'D LOVE TO MEET SOMEONE WHO:

  • Is a backend software engineer with 2+ years of professional experience - Ideally with extensive knowledge of C#, C, C++ or Node.js, and demonstrable experience of building multi-threaded/asynchronous engineering technology;

  • Ideally has good knowledge of Node.js: knowing promises from callbacks and able to configure a package.json whilst asleep! Experience with core Node.js (crypto, fs, net) is even better, and it's useful to have knowledge of the basics of Docker and why containerisation is useful;

  • Knows how to code on non-trivial software projects;

  • Understands how open-source projects work (if you have existing projects or contributions that's perfect- please do send us links in your cover letter!).

  • Is able to apply software best-practices with regards to application security, including issue tracking, testing and code reviews;

  • Loves writing server-side software, and thinks it'd be great to work with the benefits of a highly efficient platform;

  • Is interested in email technologies, protocols, problems and threats; and

  • Is willing to learn, build and contribute.

WHY YOU'LL LOVE IT HERE:

  • You’ll work alongside amazing, high-performing colleagues with a real dedication to best practices and programming excellence;

  • You'll be working on non-trivial projects, at the cutting edge of the current usage of Node.js;

  • We offer a competitive salary which will depend on your specific experience, with annual benefit and salary reviews;

  • Equity options are offered with every role;

  • Everyone gets 25 days of annual leave;

  • Company contributions are made towards your pension;

  • You’ll get to choose your own kit; laptop & OS;

  • Flexible morning-start times on the Engineering team;

  • We have a communal Company lunch twice a month, and regular team socials and activities;

  • There are plenty of office snacks including fruit, nuts, bread, and cereals, and amazing Ozone coffee;

  • We offer a cycle to work scheme, eyecare vouchers and childcare vouchers;

  • Weekly Yoga sessions in the office; and

  • If you’re coming from abroad, we’ll provide relocation assistance including flights, accommodation in an AirBnB for a week to help you make the move, and salary payments to an international bank. Over 25% of the Company is international and we’re always as supportive as we can be in helping people make the move!

DATA SCIENCE AT TESSIAN

At Tessian, we're building machine-intelligent filters to secure enterprise communications. This involves deploying near real-time machine learning models at massive scale to some of the world’s largest organisations.

Our mission is to keep the world’s most sensitive data private and secure - to do this we're looking for data scientists who pride themselves on their ability to learn new skills, are comfortable with the unknown, and are willing to experiment. We believe data scientists can fall into three valuable roles:

  1. You work for a business function analysing & reporting on how to improve a key metric, e.g increasing user conversion
  2. You are responsible for writing production models to enhance the main product, e.g recommendation systems for e-commerce

Tessian couldn't exist without our machine learning models; it’s at the heart of what we do, and it’s what our clients rely on day-to-day. We're looking for data scientists who are excited about the opportunities and challenges that come with researching, building and deploying real-time production models.

We're looking for applicants with a minimum of 3 year's production experience, or you've completed a machine learning/statistics/physics PhD and want to become more applied. You should have experience owning complex projects from start to finish.

  • Use machine learning to eliminate advanced security threats - our models are built to detect anomalies in the intricacies of human-to-human communications

  • Brainstorm ideas with your team and quickly mock up prototypes in Jupyter Notebooks

  • Be thrown into the exciting unknown - we like to focus on new problems so there is little prior research to rely on

  • Be responsible for getting your work into production (see here)

  • Work closely with the backend engineering team to deploy, monitor and iterate on your models

  • Learn new technologies and help decide which should make it into our production stack

WHY YOU'LL LOVE IT HERE:

  • You’ll work alongside amazing, high-performing colleagues;

  • Fantastic tech start-up environment, using best practices and cutting edge technologies;

  • We offer a competitive salary which will depend on your specific experience, with annual benefit and salary reviews;

Mobile Developer (iOS, Android) at Qvik (Helsinki, Finland)

Since 2008, we at Qvik have been building mobile experiences for consumers, e.g. in the fields of media, finance, travel and mobility, and retail. If you've used Yle Uutisvahti media services or MaaS Global’s Whim app for commuting, booked trips through Aurinkomatkat, traveled with Tallink Silja or used Sanoma's Aku Ankka Lataamo app to read cartoons, our developers and designers have been there to create your iOS and/or Android experience. We also supported our customer St1 to bring Apple Pay to Finland by building St1 Finance’s mobile app and infrastructure as well as the Apple Pay integration. We are also currently cooperating with major Finnish companies in the fields of, for example, finance and logistics, on services that most Finns will be using later this year.

Do these sound like projects you would have liked to work on? If so, come and work with our next ones!

WHAT SHOULD YOU KNOW?

Your tech skills should heavily rely on Objective-C, Swift, Java or Kotlin. You should also have good Finnish skills. Experience in any other languages, platforms, technologies or environments are a definite plus for you as a future Qvikie. Responsive design and native apps are the things that make you tick. Any apps already in the store will show a good case for your experience. Seniority in leading projects, mastering agile methodologies, and passion for solving multifaceted tech problems is a definite plus.

Also the ability to thrive in a multi-vendor environment and seamlessly working together with both your team and the customer are things that we truly appreciate. Usually most of the work occurs at our customers’ premises, so having initiative, self-discipline and being active are important in terms of your own development and project success.

But, in the end, we are not looking for super heros. Just normal, skilled, fun-to-work-with kinda people who want to share their talent but also constantly learn more through working with experienced colleagues. The kind of people who consider the sky as their limit. The kind of people who have goals and the ability to get there.

INTERESTED?

Our office is located in the heart of Helsinki in Kamppi shopping center office spaces.

We offer our low hierarchy culture; opportunities to try, fail and succeed; as well as a chance for you to concentrate on your actual work. That’s what you would come here for, right?

Our benefits package is also pretty nice with flexible working hours, the work equipment of your choice; lunch coupons; commuter, culture and sports benefits; occupational health care with extra insurance; company-paid massage; and many sports and hobby possibilities with other Qvikies.

In addition to many work-related guilds and other development opportunities, we arrange a lot of internal and external get-togethers and events throughout the year, in Finland and abroad.

Send us your application - We’ll fill the positions as soon as we find the right match!
