Blockchain Security Engineer (PR) at (Poly)Swarm Technologies, Inc (San Juan, Puerto Rico)

** Blockchain experience not required! **

We're operating in a very new industry and we're prepared to bring candidates up to speed! Few sectors are hot as blockchain right now - talk about professional growth :)

Join the Swarm

We're developing innovative solutions to age-old information security problems - and we need your help.

At it's core, PolySwarm is market design enabled by smart contracts. We're (literally) programming a market that will produce crowdsourced threat intelligence (malware detection today, more tomorrow).

No one has done this before. We'll get things wrong - that's okay! With your help, we'll get fewer things wrong, identify mistakes earlier and improve processes to prevent future missteps.

You're in on the ground floor - you'll have a say in what we do and how we do it. By joining Swarm Technologies, you'll be joining a dynamic team on the bleeding edge of information (computer) security and blockchain - answering questions few have thought to ask.

If you're interested in any of:

  1. information security
  2. blockchain (Ethereum smart contracts in particular)
  3. malware reverse engineering
  4. market design (a la Who Gets What and Why by Alvin Roth)
  5. technical challenges that cannot be solved via iteration
  6. unknown unknowns

... then we're interested in you.

The Ideal Candidate Is...

  1. independently motivated & self-directing
  2. introspective: able to identify weak spots / problem areas our existing processes or code and suggest / implement solutions
  3. interested in information security topics outside of work - huge props for capture the flag (CTF) participation!

Example Big-Picture Problem

The Ethereum block time leaves a lot to be desired for a marketplace that intends to supplant millions of malware scans a day.

How do we best reconcile millions of scans daily with a 15 second block time and today's block size limits?

Example Tactical Problem

The rust-web3 bindings don't support WebSockets. WebSocket support is necessary for subscribing to "push" notifications of Ethereum events: http://bit.ly/2p1biXp

At Swarm Technologies, you'll tackle both big-picture and tactical problems :)

We Offer

  • Competitive salaries

  • Excellent health, dental, vision coverage

  • Unlimited* paid vacation days

  • Travel (if you like). We have offices in San Diego, Puerto Rico and Tokyo and we often find ourselves travelling elsewhere. If travel interests you, we can scratch that itch.

  • Flexible work hours - outside of scheduled meetings, we don't care *when* you work, we care about your output.

  • Powerful servers, laptops, desktops - whatever you need to be most productive!

*Within reason! We avoid arbitrary numbers for vacation allotments. Take what you need, don't abuse it. As a start-up, we may ask that you avoid vacation for crunch times.

We're looking for an experienced DevOps engineer (or Linux Systems Administrator interested in making the leap) to with us on both our Cloud and on premise deployments. You should be experienced with (and excited by!) ideas like infrastructure as code and "cattle not pets", and be prepared to design, develop and support the various offerings of our system. Because of the sensitive nature of our work flexibility is a must. We deploy to AWS today, but may want to extend to other cloud offerings in the future.

Conventional system and network skills are key, but we are also using Docker to manage our application code, so this role gives a chance to build on, or learn fresh, modern software deployment techniques, and we variously use Linux based Docker containers and a Go based installer. You'll be investigating and proposing microservices architectures and coming up with new ways to deploy and scale Tessian's platform.

You’ll be growing your skill-set on an ongoing basis; regular and continuous development is something we believe in and as an employee we will seek to create opportunities for you to evolve. Our agnostic approach to problem solving means we favour hiring engineers who pride themselves on the ability to learn new skills, their comfort with the unknown and their willingness to experiment.

This role may involve, at times, client side visits.

Some of the technologies we’re working with include Node.js, Go, C#, Python, Postgres, MongoDB, RabbitMQ, Spark, and our current cloud stack revolves around AWS, Docker (on ECS), Ansible and Terraform.Job profiles.

WE'D LOVE TO MEET SOMEONE WHO:

  • Is a great problem solver who takes pride in their work;

  • Enjoys building scalable and resilient systems;

  • Has a deep understanding of Linux operating system and administration skills, and shell-scripting skills;

  • Has experience with containerization (Docker) and ideally some experience with container orchestration (e.g. Nomad);

  • Has experience with automation and configuration management tools (like Ansible, Terraform, and Puppet);

  • Understands server security concepts and implementations;

  • Has experience managing production applications in the cloud (AWS preferable);

  • Has created and worked with microservice infrastructures;

  • Ideally has some programming knowledge, preferably Python, Node.js, Javascript, or Go; and

  • Ideally has some experience deploying solutions to enterprise clients.

WHY YOU'LL LOVE IT HERE:

  • You’ll work alongside amazing, high-performing colleagues using cutting-edge technology;

  • We offer a competitive salary which will depend on your specific experience, with annual benefit and salary reviews;

  • Equity options are offered with every role;

  • Everyone gets 25 days of annual leave;

  • Company contributions are made towards your pension;

  • You’ll get to choose your own kit: laptop & OS;

  • Flexible morning-start times on the Engineering team;

  • We have a communal Company lunch twice a month, and regular team socials and activities;

  • There are plenty of office snacks including fruit, nuts, bread, and cereals, and amazing Ozone coffee;

  • We offer a cycle to work scheme, eyecare vouchers and childcare vouchers;

  • Weekly Yoga sessions in the office; and

  • If you’re coming from abroad, we’ll provide relocation assistance including flights, accommodation in an AirBnB for a week to help you make the move, and salary payments to an international bank.   • Is able to apply software best-practices with regards to application security, including issue tracking, testing and code reviews;

  • Loves writing server-side software, and thinks it'd be great to work with the benefits of a highly efficient platform;

  • Is interested in email technologies, protocols, problems and threats; and

  • Is willing to learn, build and contribute.

WHY YOU'LL LOVE IT HERE:

  • You’ll work alongside amazing, high-performing colleagues with a real dedication to best practices and programming excellence;

  • You'll be working on non-trivial projects, at the cutting edge of the current usage of Node.js;

Frontend Developer (React) for British startup in Prague at UENI (Prague 5, Czechia)

Headquartered in London, UENI (pronounced you-en-eye) was founded by two Harvard Business School graduates with the aim of democratising the access to a digital presence for small local businesses such as dentists, hairdressers or electricians. Even today, the vast majority of small local services business are still offline. On top of the question of cost; time and knowledge are the biggest drivers of the slow penetration. To address this issue, UENI sends out “walkers” who gather extensive data on a business, including services and prices, and then pre-build their content so that the business owner does not have to. UENI’s sales agent then call these businesses, show their pre-built content and convert them.

For paid customers, UENI also creates a google my business page and social media presence. For businesses that do not have a physical presence (e.g. plumbers), UENI works with associations to ensure the quality and validity of the businesses.

UENI focuses on breadth (cities over 100k people) and depth (high density coverage within a neighborhood). Thus far, UENI has collected data on ~400k+ small businesses across 11 Western European countries in six major languages. They aim to reach the 1 million company mark by the end of the year. Thus far, UENI have raised EUR 11 million from an impressive list of ultra-high net worth entrepreneurs and have started raising another EUR 7-10 million to match their aggressive growth plans.

UENI intends to maintain its pace of growth through continued expansion.

Click here to view a video about working at UENI

We are working on a tech stack of Kubernetes, Docker, MySQL, Python3 + Django, and React.

As we aim to provide online presence for "the long tail" of small and micro businesses, much of our work is very data driven. Many of the challenges on the dev team are around this large data set, providing internal tools to other teams to create, interact with, and manipulate this data. We are also delivering the end product to our clients, striving to provide the best digital presence we can which is cost effective and tech savvy on their side (aka automated whenever possible).

Developers are required to interact with the other teams to understand their needs and provide simple, reliable technological solutions. We are fast paced and still discovering what we can do well, and so no developer can expect to be handed simple instructions to implement in a bubble.

On the backend we are in a transition period as we move to a microservice architecture from our original monolith system. Wherever possible, we use a shared django template for these projects so we can start a new project fast and easily understand each other's code.

On the front end our main project is the ueni.com website, including pages for each business owner with a high focus on SEO and usability to give small businesses an easy but effective digital presence and allow new customers to find them. At the same time we provide extra functionality to the business owners to control and see performance stats for their pages. This is implemented in React, Redux and Node for server side rendering.

About the Prague office:

UENI opened a new office in Prague in January 2018 as a result of their growing business and success throughout Europe. UENI want to build a team of developers and other IT specialists who will help the company grow further. After initial training it is expected that the Prague team will be working independently on their own projects. UENI currently have 10 employees in Prague and the number is expected to grow.

Location: Holekova 31, Praha 5 (Smíchov)

What you will do:

As a Front-end Developer, you would be primarily working on our main website ueni.com. The website provides business owners with facilities to register, onboard and edit their business information with minimal technological knowledge. At the same time, potential business customers have ability to view business information, and request bookings.

The goal of the website is to provide easy to use facilities, and automate as much as possible for the customers (on both ends). The website utilizes React, Redux, ES6, REST APIs, and number other of technologies to provide a server side and client side rendering.We are constantly improving, refactoring and adding new features to our website to improve customer experiences.

You will be expected to:

  • Work with our UX/UI designers and implement fast and responsive (mobile-friendly) pages based on the designs

  • Collaborate with backend developers to make sure the APIs serve your needs for a given feature

  • Work in a team, and collaborate on code style, implementation ideas, and pull requests (using Git).

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of front-end development experience (JavaScript, AngularJS, ReactJS, KnockoutJS, JQuery, SPA, HTML5, CSS3/Less, JSON etc)

  • Minimum of 1 year using ReactJS

  • Solid experience of complex JavaScript

  • ES6

  • Willingness to travel a few times to London during the first weeks of the employment in order to receive training

Benefits:

  • Highly competitive salaries

  • Career progression - we encourage personal development, autonomy and responsibility

  • Developers are encouraged to attend conferences and training days

  • Freedom to explore new technologies

  • Develop a modern user experience on a cutting-edge platform

  • Reach millions of users worldwide

  • We epitomise the saying ‘work hard, play hard’
