We make small businesses more successful through better banking.
NorthOne is looking for a Senior Full Stack Developer to join our team as we enter a new phase of product development. We are a Toronto and Montreal-based, venture-backed, early-stage startup at the heart of the FinTech movement that is shaping the way financial services are delivered.
We are a team that values diversity and inclusivity. Excellence doesn't come in one flavour and neither should we.
Our story
Our company’s purpose is to eliminate the pain that small business owners face through their financial management and banking. To achieve this, we’re re-imaging business banking from the ground up. Imagine you could start with a clean slate and think of a different way to deliver banking to small businesses. What would you change? What would you keep? These are the decisions that we make every day.
Our product
NorthOne is building a mobile-first, API-enabled banking platform serving startups and small business (SMBs). Given the impact that poor financial literacy and controllership has on SMB failure rates and costs, we're building a banking platform whose very mission is to eliminate these problems. As such, we are not only their bank, but also the tech-forward Finance Department SMBs could never afford. To do so, we've partnered up with a fully-licensed bank in order to create a new business banking option for Canadian businesses.
Our team
We product. Thoughtful and rigorous product development makes us giddy. That’s why when it comes to product, everybody plays in the orchestra. We’ve got a lead UX designer, a lead developer, and a Sr. Technical advisor who used to be the chief architect of a large Canadian bank. Our COO has helped build digital products used by companies like Frank and Oak, Supercell, MachineZone, BMO, and Trivago. Oh, and our CEO? 5 years at McKinsey working on digital customer experience in financial services and self-taught in UX design and predictive modeling. We’re building a product that solves real pain, vs the imagined kind. Feeling it?

Nice to have: Dev ops experience, you’ve worked with AWS (e.g., Redshift, IAM) and understand how to build secure systems and applications, NodeJS, mobile UX design, system architecture.
Getting things done efficiently: You’re an agile practitioner who loves SCRUM.
Getting things done safely: Worked on systems containing secure / sensitive client data.
Getting things done with others: Led partner integrations (e.g., custom, standardized).
*** We strongly encourage you to submit your GitHub account (or similar) along with your application***
Experiences and stories you can tell us around the campfire:
Participating in a scoping process for a pre-production software application
Working on a production system with a regular release cycle, including mobile applications
Shipping one or more software applications
Working on a major refactor of a software application
Contributions to an open source project
Planning for crises, working through them when they were unavoidable
Few people have been trained for this sort of role. If you are this close to what we’ve described, but aren’t sure, apply. Let’s figure out together if this is where you could shine.
