Advanced Python Engineer at Research Affiliates (Investment Systems) (Newport Beach, CA)

We are a small team of software engineers passionate about building fast, lean, and robust Python code. We use the newest versions of Python 3, and broadly employ modern language features and libraries such as type hints, generators, decorators, functools, itertools, and collections. We use high-performance libraries like NumPy, Pandas, and StaticFrame. Although we do not write much C, we understand Python at the C level. Senior Java, Scala, Kotlin Developer - Vice President at Citibank Innovation Lab (London, UK)

Senior Java, Scala, Kotlin Developer - Vice President

Banking - Innovation Lab

Salary - Circa £100,000 (negotiable)

Do you want to be part of a team that will transform a revenue-generating business stream by introducing a completely new technology stack and turn technology into an enabler rather than a series of obstacles?

Your new company

You'll be joining a top tier investment bank but in their innovation lab - dress down, collaboration with tech startups, bring your dog, etc

Your new role

You'll join a small, agile team that is building an API driven, big data system for index calculation. Don't worry, you won't need any prior product experience - the team are focused on the tech and some of them hadn't previously worked in the banking industry.

The technology stack is varied meaning you'll get exposure to multiple JVM technologies including; Java, Scala and Kotlin. Couchbase is used heavily which should be fun to learn and it's a DevOps environment where you'll use Docker and Kubernetes though you don't need to be an expert.

From a business perspective, you'll work closely with users such as Quants. The environment is agile (but this means more to them than just having a daily stand up) and they are keen advocates of TDD. On a Friday you can typically choose to work on the problems that interest you most.

What you'll need to succeed

You'll need to have experience building high performance, scalable JVM apps in an agile environment.

What you'll get in return

The salary is circa £100,00 but definitely negotiable for the right experience, so let's chat.

What you need to do now

If you'd like more information on this role, you can apply directly via stack. If you don't have an up to date CV, that's fine just reach out to me on LinkedIn or drop me an email at ben.daleathays.com.

TypeScript Backend Engineer at Tessian (London, UK)

TypeScript Engineering at Tessian Read more about Engineering at Tessian: https://stackoverflow.com/jobs/companies/tessian Our TypeScript team are building a scalable infrastructure for processing email traffic in real-time. You'll be a software engineer with a strong interest in developing backend services in TypeScript, looking to start a fresh challenge in 2019. Our stack includes core TypeScript, Node.js, Docker, AWS/Azure, and Postgres, amongst others and you'll be helping to build a new generation of dependable AI-based enterprise security. Unlike most TypeScript roles we're using this technology to execute some pretty low-level concepts and we're drilling down to fundamentals. This isn't an Express app or a full-stack web role; we're building a core, high-performance backend to support Tessian's cybersecurity platform. You'll make a big impact in a small team, with opportunities to drive our future technology, mentor other developers and solve business-critical issues. You'll be a great thinker and have the ability to plan, question, suggest and explain - skills we value as highly as your ability to write solid, dependable code. As part of our team, you'll be collaborating with our Data Scientists who are building new machine learning threat models, architecting our application to scale with our growing client base, diagnosing critical issues and contributing to planning and architecture discussions. We believe in regular and continuous development and seek to create opportunities for all team members. We have regular cross-discipline tech talks and we encourage multi-disciplinary development. Dealing with massive datasets at scale requires ingenuity and strong analytical skills, and we build quickly, following both agile and continuous delivery paradigms. You'll have a degree of autonomy to work on your various projects, and be a part of our regular round tables to bounce ideas around. We believe in continuous career development and will look to create opportunities for you to evolve both personally and professionally.

Senior Applied Data Scientist at Tessian (London, UK)

Data Science at Tessian Read more about Engineering at Tessian: https://stackoverflow.com/jobs/companies/tessian At Tessian, we're building machine-intelligent filters to secure enterprise communications. This involves deploying near real-time machine learning models at massive scale to some of the world’s largest organisations. Our mission is to keep the world’s most sensitive data private and secure - to do this we're looking for data scientists who pride themselves on their ability to learn new skills, are comfortable with the unknown, and are willing to experiment. Companies can leverage data science in a number of ways, and we think the role of a Data Scientist falls into three distinct categories: 1) You work for a business function analysing & reporting on how to improve a key metric, e.g increasing user conversion 2) You are responsible for writing production models to enhance the main product, e.g recommendation systems for e-commerce 3) The product that the company sells is the machine learning models you build Tessian couldn't exist without our machine learning models; it’s at the heart of what we do, and it’s what our clients rely on day-to-day. We're looking for data scientists who are excited about the opportunities and challenges that come with researching, building and deploying real-time production models. We're looking for applicants with 5+ year's production experience, or you've completed a machine learning/statistics/physics PhD and want to become more applied. You should have experience owning complex projects from start to finish and an interest in eventually leading a team. More junior than this?Check out our non-senior role variant here. If you're interested in hearing more about Data Science at Tessian, read our blog post here! You can also find out more on our Stack Overflow: https://stackoverflow.com/jobs/companies/Tessian

As a Tessian Data Scientist you will

    • Use machine learning to eliminate advanced security threats - our models are built to detect anomalies in the intricacies of human-to-human communications

    • Brainstorm ideas with your team and quickly mock up prototypes in Jupyter Notebooks

    • Be thrown into the exciting unknown - we like to focus on new problems so there is little prior research to rely on

    • Learn new technologies and help decide which should make it into our production stack

Platform Engineer at Tessian (London, UK)

The Platform Team at Tessian We're looking for experienced DevOps engineers to join us on our predominantly cloud centric infrastructure. You should be experienced with (and excited by!) ideas like infrastructure as code and "cattle not pets", and be prepared to design, develop and support the various offerings of our system. Because of the sensitive nature of our work flexibility is a must. We deploy to AWS today, but may want to extend to other cloud offerings in the future. We are extensively using Docker to manage our application code, so this role gives a chance to build on modern software deployment techniques, and we use a range of cloud services to orchestrate, secure and manage our application stack. You'll be investigating and proposing microservices architectures and coming up with new ways to deploy and scale Tessian's platform. You’ll be growing your skill-set on an ongoing basis; regular and continuous development is something we believe in and as an employee we will seek to create opportunities for you to evolve. Our agnostic approach to problem solving means we favour hiring engineers who pride themselves on the ability to learn new skills, their comfort with the unknown and their willingness to experiment. This role may involve, at times, client side visits. Some of the technologies we’re working with include Node.jsC#PythonPostgresMongoDBSpark, and our current cloud stack revolves around AWS, Docker (on ECS), Ansible and Terraform.

We'd love to meet someone who

    • Is a great problem solver who takes pride in their work

    • Enjoys building scalable and resilient systems

    • Has strong experience managing a range of production applications in a distributed and highly available cloud services environment (AWS preferable)

    • Has experience with containerization (Docker) and high level container orchestration systems (e.g. ECS/Kubernetes/Swarm)

    • Has experience with automation and configuration management tools (e.g. Ansible, Terraform, and Puppet)

    • Has a deep understanding of Linux operating system and administration skills, and shell-scripting skills

    • Has a deep understanding of server/network security concepts and implementations

    • Has created and worked with microservice infrastructures

    • Ideally has some programming knowledge, preferably Python, Node.js, Javascript, or Go

    • Ideally has some experience deploying solutions to enterprise clients

Why we think you'll love it here

      • It’s important to us that all Tessians are part of the journey we’re on, so we offer equity options with every role and benchmark to provide above market rate salaries - there’s plenty more too….
