JOB DESCRIPTION:
Lean Operations extends the responsibilities beyond DevOps and Automation Engineering.
The PTO Lean Operations Engineer is part of the Property Management System Technical Operations (PTO) team. The PTO team maintains the Opera Property Management system around the world. The PTO Lean Operations Engineer is part of a group within the PTO team that helps optimize and streamline the work done by other members of the PTO team.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Process Improvement
• Learn the processes for delivering projects on the PTO Projects team
• Learn the processes for delivering technical support on the PTO Support team
• Learn how the Opera Property Management System
• Work with PTO team members to identify and implement improvements to processes and tools
• Watch how the tools owned by the PTO Lean Operations team get used by other team members to find optimizations to processes and tools
• Support and encourage a team culture of incorporating Lessons Learned after projects and Support incidents
• Assist in the development of improvement roadmaps
Automation
• Process improvements will frequently take the form of automation
• Maintain and enhance existing automation code base
• Develop new tools to automate manual processes on the PTO team
• Collaborate with other engineers to work through technical problems
• Follow good coding practices. (E.g., code structure, version control, version promotion, etc.)
Communications
• Produces functional, process, and technical documentation
• Produces status reporting to manager and others
• Participates in cross-training of the changes made by the PTO Lean Operations team
Reporting
• Participates in measuring system/process baselines and improvements due to enhancements
• Participates in tracking, trending, and reporting on the deliverables of the PTO Lean Operations team
• Assists with tracking, trending, and reporting on the deliverables of other PTO teams
• Assists PTO Support team with tools for monitoring, tracking, trending, and alerting of Production performance and outages
Relationship Management
• Collaborate with people outside of the PTO team doing Automation and DevOps to drive best practices to and from the automation of the PTO team
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience participating on continuous improvement teams
• Experience participating on development projects
• Experience participating on projects centered on the automation tools listed above
• Experience with Infrastructure as a Service. (E.g., Azure, AWS)
• Strong knowledge of the automation tools listed above
• Capable of working independently under ambiguous and/or changing conditions
• Excellent communication skills; comfortable in front of all levels of the organization
Must-Have Technologies/Experience
• Automation: Ansible
• Virtualization/Containers: vSphere or Azure
• Development Support Tools: Bitbucket/Github/etc
Strongly Preferred Technologies/Experience
• Automation: PowerShell, Rundeck, Packer, Jenkins, Terraform
• Development Support Tools: Jira
• Operating Systems: Windows System internals
• Middleware: Websphere
• Database: Oracle SQL
• Networking fundamentals: VIP's, firewalls, DNS
Nice-to-Have Technologies/Experience
• Virtualization/Containers: Docker
• Operating Systems: Linux
• Database: PL/SQL

• Self-starter
• Tenacious. Not uncomfortable digging into code and figuring it out.
• Passionate about learning new technology
• Coaching/training is available from other team members, but candidate must be comfortable learning new tools through independent discovery. Should try to figure things out on their own before asking for help.
• Likes solving technical problems

• Works well independently and with others
Communication
• Does not have to be a native English speaker. It's more important to be able to break down complicated topics into simple explanations than to speak without an accent.
