Responsibilities :

Architecture :

- Implement and test complex data architectures (Databases and large scale processing systems)

- Discover, construct and test data acquisition pipelines

- Employ a variety of data acquisition and processing tools to build data pipelines

- Leverage and process large volumes of data from internal and external sources to answer key business questions

- Identify ways to improve data reliability, efficiency, and quality

- Build systems that will analyze and detect data patterns

- Explore and examine data to find hidden patterns

- Detect, Monitor and alert on data patterns in real time

Qualifications :

- 3+ years of experience with data processing tools - hadoop, spark, scala.

- 5 years of experience in data engineering, modelling with large scale data processing environments.

- 2 years of experience with amazon or google data processing technologies

- Experience with reporting and analytical tools

- Knowledge of Java 8 or higher

- Strong knowledge and experience in most of the following AWS services: EC2, Lambda, SQS, Kinesis, S3, CloudFormation, CLI, CloudWatch

- Basic experience working with Amazon EMR & Spark

- Strong knowledge of SQL, experience in query performance optimization

- Experience working with column-based databases like Redshift

- Passion to pro-active learning of new technologies and sharing it in the team

Preferred :

- Prior work experience in implementing large scale data lake

- Build self learning systems

- Implement and optimize machine learning models recommended by Data scientists

- Prepare data sets for use in modelling

Responsibilities:

- Write solid code that can scale

- Independently perform all phases of software engineering including design, development, testing, and deployment in an Agile software development environment

- Design and develop next generation SaaS based financial services platform

- Design and develop cloud based transaction-processing solutions using traditional and emerging technologies.

- Develop products that perform, scale, are highly available and fault tolerant with automated fail over capabilities.

- Participate in standard scrum process including daily stand-up meetings, iteration planning, story grooming, etc.

- Contribute novel ideas and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver and improve Blackhawk systems.

- Interface with and influence product architects, product owners, and other stakeholders to create great technical requirements and evaluate solutions (inhouse or vendor).

Qualifications :

- 3+ years of solid programming experience with distributed systems and algorithms

- 2+ years of hands on development and design experience on payment transaction processing.

- Strong knowledge in service-oriented architecture - specifically REST services

- Ability to differentiate good and bad, design and coding practices

- Experience reviewing code, mentoring team members, and driving great development practices.

- Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) including RDS and EC2

- Ability to assimilate and organize large volumes of disparate, minute detail, and assemble a big picture view.

- Able to work autonomously

- Experience in delivering projects with Agile, Scrum

Responsibilities



  • Be responsible for growing and developing the infrastructure engineering division at Canva (currently 50 people), bringing on board world-class talent and nurturing the progression of current members within the team

  • Drive delivery of large-scale projects from ideation to completion within start-up time frames to ensure Canva’s overall reliability, performance, security, and stability

  • Take a customer-focused approach to technical leadership, working to strike a balance between company and team priorities

  • Stakeholder management across the entire business – product leads, group heads, and the founders

  • Be responsible for people leadership within the Infrastructure Group – mentoring, professional progression, and growth of your engineers

  • Working with other engineering leaders to ensure we continue improving code quality, technical mentorship, staffing, recruitment, and retention

  • Think ahead and build for the future as opposed to band-aid fixes for today – balancing the “getting things done” part of the job with long-term future-proofing of Canva’s infrastructure


Required Skills & Experience



  • A hands-on technical background with ideally five or more (5+) years in technical leadership roles – planning, designing, and implementing cloud infrastructure projects

  • Proven experience delivering massive-scale infrastructure projects, such as experience moving from single to multi-region on AWS

  • Proven experience developing software in AWS environments or comparable (Google Cloud, Azure) platforms, CI/CD pipelines, automation, and managing production infrastructure

  • Demonstrated experience leading teams of 30+ and contributing to their skills development and professional journeys

  • Familiarity with JVM web application infrastructure is beneficial

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; with the ability to work with a diverse range of individuals from different backgrounds and with different professional needs

  • Be capable of leading from the front by example – promoting Canva’s values, no-blame mentality, and engineering values
