Expert Java Developer at AUTO1 (Berlin, Germany)

What you will do:

  • Full lifecycle engineering: Architecture, solution design, development, quality assurance, shipping, monitoring and maintenance are all done by ourselves in our service oriented platform with currently 110+ restful microservices.

  • Use your brain (a lot): Use your experience, hands-on and can-do attitudes to solve complex problems in the most prolific engineering teams in the vast startup hub of Berlin. (1600+ releases in 2017)

  • Raise the bar: Our team has a combined professional experience of over 250 years, averaging at 7.3y per person. Each developer undergoes our coding puzzles to ensure we hire greatest quality. Our culture makes every one of us better every day.

  • Lead the pack: Small temporary project groups or new permanent teams get kicked off on regular basis. We always need leaders being ready to take over a business unit’s services or provide “POC and delivery” on untouched fields.

What you will learn:

  • AUTO1 is disrupting the automotive industry. Most of the things we do have never been done before. Every day we are scaling and tuning the core platform and create tools to launch new green field applications.

  • Bleeding edge technology stacks and the drive to always think about the next thing to incorporate without getting bloated. We currently use spring-cloud, java8, postgres 9.5 with jsonb types, mysql, elasticsearch and a nice bunch of AWS technologies like ec2, ecs, s3, rds, sqs/sns, elasticache and some lambdas.

  • Dealing with tons of microservices has it’s own challenges and they require creative approaches.

How you will progress:

  • On the second day most new starters are ready to code

  • Around two weeks later your first lines of code will most probably hit production

  • In one month your impact to your team or even across teams starts to become measurable

  • After half a year you will have significant domain knowledge of the topics you have been working on and be a contact point on this for all your peers.

  • After one year at Auto1 you have become a key strategy advisor for multiple projects of all sizes and impacts. As a core member and mentor of one of our teams you’re pushing forward on multiple business and technical challenges and drive them to success.

What you should bring:

  • You are very very smart and can understand complex problems very quickly

  • You have 6+ years of professional experience in java programming with spring based technologies

  • You have previous experience in leading a group of developers and taking responsibility for your team and your software. The more the better!

  • You have deep understanding of the JVM. You are fluid in modern java and know the possibilities of the language and can apply them in every-day or heisenbug scenarios

  • You have a passionate opinion on how a restful APIs should ideally look like, but you’re not too dogmatic to ignore every-day needs of a business

  • You have hands on experience with spring boot, a nice to have would be spring cloud

  • You’ve seen enough to know that you’re not perfect, but when looking into a mirror you know you’re pretty darn good!

What you will get:

  • Technical excellence - You will join a high profile and fun engineering team surrounded by technology

  • Innovative culture - You will work on previously unsolved challenges and experiment with new technologies

  • Real impact - Your work will enable our business success and disrupt the car industry

  • Benefits package - You will take advantage of our employee pension scheme, tandem partner program, discounts on different services (gym, public transport, leisure activities...), regular team-events (international nights, bowling, karaoke...)

  • Smooth start in Berlin - You will receive relocation support that includes assistance with visa, apartment search, moving costs and help with German bureaucracy

PHP Architect at Coolblue (Rotterdam, Netherlands)

As a PHP Architect at Coolblue, you make sure that our web shops are architecturally sound and provide our customer with the best possible experience.

What you say at parties

"I write code and help build webshops. No, I don't use l33t speak."

What you really do

  • Come up with solutions that improve the performance of our webshops.
  • Improve the technology that runs over 300 webshops.
  • Work in teams that consist of 5 (+/- 2) developers and designers.

How you do it

  • You're an all-rounder in a Scrum team. You have your own expertise, but you're able to handle anything your team throws at you.
  • You'll prioritize assignments together with your team and Product Owner.
  • You'll receive feedback directly from end-users, and you'll be given plenty of opportunity to experiment.
  • You'll work closely together with your team in order to meet ambitious deadlines. There's always a budget for good ideas.
  • You'll measure the performance and reliability of all the new features that you introduce, and you'll be ready to fix anything that goes wrong.
  • You'll actively coach your fellow team members and provide feedback.

Team

You'll be working in a team with three to five other developers, each of them with their own specialization (back-end and front-end developers, or UX designers). Your team will work together with a Team Lead, a Scrum Master, and a Product Owner. Your team is part of a larger family, in which each team is responsible for one specific domain of the Coolblue website.

A day at the office

You open a pull request in GitHub for your last changes in the Javascript codebase of one of the back-end services for our new faceted-search functionality. You have fixed a bug in a de-serialisation method that was causing metadata to leak from JSON objects. Considering the large amount of simultaneous, relatively small requests these services process, Node.js seemed the obvious choice. So you had to abandon your usual work field of PHP and give the old Javascript another chance. Once again it proved itself a powerful language, capable of building beautiful stuff. Maybe the front-enders were right after all? Now that this has been tackled, you return to PHP. You had this idea to optimise the determination of the sorting order of the filters on the site.

What we're asking

  • You're a team player.
  • A minimum of seven years experience as a PHP developer.
  • You're experienced when it comes to improving your colleagues' craftsmanship and technical skills.
  • Clean Architecture and Scrum/Agile are in your DNA.
  • You know how to write clean, readable, and extendable PHP code.
  • You're able to solve problems using accepted best practices and principles, like SOLID and design patterns.
  • You care about code quality.
  • You know how to automate recurring development steps and implement them in continuous integration and deployment systems.
  • You're willing to relocate to Rotterdam (or nearby).

What we're offering

  • Relocation assistance, from start to finish.
  • Dutch language courses. To help you become a Rotterdammert.
  • Over 30 courses at our Coolblue University.
  • A relocation bonus on top of your first monthly salary.
  • Discount on a new bicycle. Because that's how we roll.
  • A 10% discount on all of our products.
  • Travel allowance and a retirement plan.
  • An office at the best possible location. It's only a hop and a skip away from Rotterdam Central Station. Or a 2-minute walk.
  • An awesome workplace. With freshly prepared meals, monthly TGIF drinks at our own bar, epic Coolblue parties, extracurricular activities, and an informal, playful office space.
  • 25 leave days. As long as you'll promise to come back.
  • Parties. All night LAN.
  • Money. And we'll ask the government to give you a tax break.

Contractmanager Tech - Dutch speaking at Coolblue (Rotterdam, Netherlands)

How you do it

  • You like to be challenged. You see the obstacles to get to a cloud-based infrastructure as an opportunity to learn.
  • You share knowledge with your Tech Development colleagues to make them self-sufficient. Better teach a man to fish than to give him one, right?
  • You stay cool when things break. You search for the root cause and dont stop until you find it. Once you do, you make sure this cant fail again.
  • You don't wait for things to come to you. You go out and get them. You're self motivated, communicative and get things done.
  • You work together, because you like to learn from your colleagues. You coach your team members and provide them with honest feedback.
  • You have your own opinion and youre able to voice it in a constructive discussion.

The engineers in this team know everything about the systems of our web platform.  Your team will be supported by a Team Lead, Product Owner and a Scrum Master.

A day at the office

During the stand-up, you agree to work with Jamie (our cloud expert) on moving some domains to Route 53. The configuration is not complex, but you need to call with our current hosting provider. It's a bit of a challenge as it is hard to get the right information about what they are doing and when. However, you work closely with them and together you get it done by lunch.

In the afternoon you talk to the Product Assortment development team and discuss how we can use data from Google to give customers assortment recommendations. You discuss different options for implementation with the team and agree to join them next sprint for a few days to create an API Gateway with some Lambda functions and an Elasticache Redis cluster.
At the end of the day, Frank (senior developer from your team) demonstrates the new solution for the assets of the website. They are now being served from an S3 bucket, with CloudFront caching in front of it. It works great, so well take it into Production next week. After that, it's time to go out and have a nice specialty beer. You do check your beers in Untappd, right?

What we're asking

  • You are smart and have some way to prove it.
  • You are awesome with Linux, Windows or both! Since we have .NET, Delphi and PHP stacks we can use your experience.
  • You are strong with configuration management tools like Puppet, Chef, or Ansible.
  • You believe in configuration management - if its not managed, its not real.
  • You know scripting and have development experience in Python, Ruby, Javascript or plain old Bash.
  • You automate all the things from bootstrap to backup.
  • You have a DevOps mindset with a strong drive to get things done. You automate. You collaborate. You communicate.
  • You have experience working with CloudFormation. Certification is a plus, otherwise we'll make sure you get it.
  • You have done similar work before, at least a couple of years.
  • You think big and start small. In the end, it's about getting things done.
  • You take pride in what you do, but welcome feedback.
  • You get bonus points if you have experience working with Scrum and if you have experience working with other cloud providers. You also get bonus points for writing a nice cover letter, you would make team lead Sander Knape very happy with that!
  • You are willing to relocate to Rotterdam or somewhere nearby.

What we're offering

  • Money.
  • Over 30 training courses at our own Coolblue University.
  • A 10% discount on all of our products.

Senior Delphi Developer at Coolblue (Rotterdam, Netherlands)

What you really do

  • Coming up with and building new functionalities for all the processes behind the scenes of our online shops and physical stores.

  • Implementing automatised quality control.

  • There is always a budget for good ideas.
  • Measurements on results and experience are your gurus, your gut feeling isn't. To measure is to know.

A day at the office

Parcel sorter will be the next story of the sprint you are handling. Using this link diminishes the amount of times a package has to be picked up, checked and put away by a whopping 3,500 times. Logistics will be happy. The data model only needs minor adjustments. The service that takes care of communication is easily fixed. FTP is more demanding than a web service, but you know how it rolls. Twenty packages are stuck in line somewhere and you and another team member need to find out why. Found it: the creation of multicolli packages happens in a different way. Tuesday is release day, so then you get to see the happy faces in Logistics when they put your work to use.

Team

You'll become part of an agile, multidisciplinary team, ranging in size between four and six members. You get your own team room, a scrum master to help guide the process and a product owner to represent the business' needs.

What we're asking

  • Knowledge of and experience with Delphi.
  • Experience with Oracle or a similar database.

What we're offering

  • To help you keep your money, we also chip in on your pension, pay for your travels and offer a discount on all the stuff we sell.
  • Room for you to do things your way.
  • An extensive relocation package. Just pack your toothbrush, we'll take of the rest.
  • Lots of things you can learn through our in-house Coolcademy.
  • All work and no play is not our thing, so you get 25 days of paid leave.
  • We like to inspire your passion for technology by giving you the opportunity to visit events.
  • An office in the heart of Rotterdam so there's plenty to do when you're not at work.
  • And yes, we also have the industry standard perks such as free beer, ping pong tables, great lunch, team activities and awesome parties.

AGODA - Senior Android Developer - eTravel, Bangkok at Big Wednesday Digital (Bangkok, Thailand)

Who is Agoda?

Agoda is the largest and fastest growing online hotel booking platform in Asia, and as a Priceline Group company, we are part of the largest online travel company in the world.

Why Agoda?
  • At Agoda, you'll find a team of smart and engaged people collaborating to find elegant and beautiful solutions to complex problems
  • We have each others backs and you'll work closely with the team to build great products
  • The team you will be joining is multi-cultural, multi-lingual, and we're all travellers at heart

If you're passionate about the idea of joining a strong engineering team that's obsessed about learning, getting better every single day, and tackling big and interesting technical and business challenges, then read on.

Why Agoda Mobile Apps Team?

We're very proud about our Android app, which has become a core part of our business. You'll be working on a product that's evolved tremendously and still has lots of room to grow.

Here are some interesting facts about us:
  • We write our code in the MVP pattern with a lot of lessons learned from earlier MVVM work. Our goal is to use the best patterns and SOLID principals to achieve ever-increasing code quality and team velocity
  • We are implementing with Mosby and our favourite Java8 features, which means you'll enjoy reading our code-base again and again because of how alluring it is
  • We love A/B testing features, this will help you better understand your audience and the impact of the work you do on the business
  • All of our work is covered by a solid suite of JUnit and Espresso UI tests (we're very serious about this - we have around 5 hours of UI tests if you run them serially!) We automate everything. Love of mockito, Robolectric, and adb required.
  • We support over 40 locales (and still haven't solved one key localisation challenge which is RTL)
  • Git lets us make our magic. We are unlike almost 99% of App development teams in that merge multiple scrum teams work constantly into a common code base. Expertise in all things Git - mandatory.
  • And of course, we take code reviews very seriously, because we're obsessed about quality and developing together as a team
  • Must have knowledge of RxJava, Dagger2, jUnit 4, mockito, Robolectric, espresso, Retrofit, Fresco, Analytics (Fabric, Google Analytics, etc), A/B testing

What else?

With Agoda you can grow rapidly as an engineer.
  • You will work with top Android developers
  • Have the ability to use and expand your experience
  • Have a big impact on the business.

If you are keen to try and learn new things, you can always challenge yourself by improving the CI systems at the core of our process, experimenting and introducing new languages and design patterns and even chipping in to our IOS app or API code! It's not unusual for our engineers to step outside of their scope to help the whole team grow and get better.

And since we have many scrums in the team, it's also not uncommon for engineers to have experience across different scrum teams where they can learn about different parts of the product.

Agoda puts engineering and product at the front and centre of the business. That's even more true of the mobile team, where, more and more, new strategic projects start with the app. You will get to work on lots of cool stuff and important business decisions are made right here.

If that's the kind of team you want to join, let's talk!

Agoda is an equal opportunity employer and values diversity. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, colour, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status or disability status.

Expression of Interest at Rotor Studios (North Sydney, Australia)

We are always on the lookout for passionate developers to join our team! While we might not have an open position now, this usually changes very quickly, so we’d love to hear from you.

We’re eager to connect with developers from all walks of life, no matter your level of experience or your language preference.

What we are looking for is team players; people who truly love collaborating. Of course there are always times where you might need to put your headphones on, knuckle down and concentrate, but this isn’t the norm in our studio - our developers love sharing their knowledge and learning from each other.

ABOUT YOU

You genuinely care that things are done the right way, but recognise that sometimes you just have to GSD (get stuff done!). You are always looking to learn and improve - whether you've got zero experience or 15 years experience with that technology, you know there's room to make it better.

You like to bounce ideas around with other creative and talented devs and you're slightly addicted to the buzz you get from coming up with a unique solution to a curly problem. You thrive in an environment where you can call on the expertise of your team mates, as well as having your expertise depended upon and recognised.

The team you work with is just as important to you as what you're trying to achieve, and the tech stack you're using to get there. (Although new and interesting is always more fun!)
