  • Our polyglot team has interest in multiple JVM languages and a strong preference for simple, elegant solutions to customer needs.

  • We are cloud native: that means building fault-tolerant, highly available applications that can scale up to meet load and scale down to watch those Benjamins.

What we look for:

  • Breadth of experience across languages and frameworks.

  • Deep knowledge of the Java or Javascript languages, including the latest features in Java 8, and desire to work in Kotlin and React.

  • Past experience with Spring, Guice, or other IoC tools.

  • Experience with new web frameworks like Dropwizard, Spring Boot, or Play is a plus.

  • A history of unit and other automated testing to ensure application quality.

PHP Architect at Coolblue (Rotterdam, Netherlands)

As a PHP Architect at Coolblue, you make sure that our web shops are architecturally sound and provide our customer with the best possible experience.

  • Improve the technology that runs over 300 webshops.
  • Work in teams that consist of 5 (+/- 2) developers and designers.

How you do it

  • You're an all-rounder in a Scrum team. You have your own expertise, but you're able to handle anything your team throws at you.
  • You'll prioritize assignments together with your team and Product Owner.

  • You'll actively coach your fellow team members and provide feedback.

Team

Your team will work together with a Team Lead, a Scrum Master, and a Product Owner. Your team is part of a larger family, in which each team is responsible for one specific domain of the Coolblue website.

A day at the office

You open a pull request in GitHub for your last changes in the Javascript codebase of one of the back-end services for our new faceted-search functionality. You have fixed a bug in a de-serialisation method that was causing metadata to leak from JSON objects. Considering the large amount of simultaneous, relatively small requests these services process, Node.js seemed the obvious choice. So you had to abandon your usual work field of PHP and give the old Javascript another chance. Once again it proved itself a powerful language, capable of building beautiful stuff. Maybe the front-enders were right after all? Now that this has been tackled, you return to PHP. You had this idea to optimise the determination of the sorting order of the filters on the site.

What we're asking

  • You're a team player.
  • A minimum of seven years experience as a PHP developer.
  • You're experienced when it comes to improving your colleagues' craftsmanship and technical skills.
  • Clean Architecture and Scrum/Agile are in your DNA.
  • You know how to write clean, readable, and extendable PHP code.
  • You're able to solve problems using accepted best practices and principles, like SOLID and design patterns.
  • You care about code quality.
  • You know how to automate recurring development steps and implement them in continuous integration and deployment systems.
  • You're willing to relocate to Rotterdam (or nearby).

What we're offering

  • Relocation assistance, from start to finish.
  • Dutch language courses. To help you become a Rotterdammert.
  • Over 30 courses at our Coolblue University.
  • A relocation bonus on top of your first monthly salary.
  • Discount on a new bicycle. Because that's how we roll.
  • A 10% discount on all of our products.
  • Travel allowance and a retirement plan.
  • An office at the best possible location. It's only a hop and a skip away from Rotterdam Central Station. Or a 2-minute walk.
  • An awesome workplace. With freshly prepared meals, monthly TGIF drinks at our own bar, epic Coolblue parties, extracurricular activities, and an informal, playful office space.

  • You will actively coach and continuously provide feedback to your team members.

A day in the office

You work with Rafael, a medior developer who works in your team, at some improvements on the review page. The controller of the page is a 5 years old piece of code in PHP 5.6. Even if you are not an expert with that language, you notice that some logic in there should belong to a different layer. You ask Rafael what he thinks about that and in a while you start refactoring the code together, creating some tests for the controller and moving the logic to the new layer. Rafael opens a Pull Request for that and Donatas, a medior developer of another team, gives thumbs up, merging the changes. The terrain is now more solid and you start building the actual improvement. You suggest to go for TDD and Rafael is super happy to create the first test for the functionality. It fails, its normal, you havent create the functionality yet! Step by step you and Rafael manage to finish the story.

Since the weather is fine, you go for a fast sandwich with the whole team in the sunny Central Station square. There you discover that two junior developers, Bart and Paul, are working hard at another story which turns out to be harder than estimated. When you get back in the office, you sit down with them in front of the agile board and you create altogether a better plan of attack, breaking the story in smaller tasks. Then you meet other developers interested on introducing BDD. You share the experience you have with a couple of tools and altogether you decide to create a proof of concept for testing PHPSpec.

Team

You will be working in a team with four to seven other Developers, each of them with their own specialization, ranging from backend to UX design. Your team will work with a Team Lead and a Product Owner. One of the developers (potentially even you) is also acting as a Scrum Master. You and another team are part of a family, so youre both responsible for one specific domain of Coolblue.

  • You know how to automate recurring development steps and implement them in continuous integration and deployment systems.

  • You understand and investigate what a user wants and feels.
  • Experience in working with large codebases is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Clean (Onion) architecture and PaaS is a plus.
  • Willing to become a PHP expert (if you are not yet).
  • Willing to relocate to Rotterdam (or to reasonable daily travel distance).

What we're offering

  • Money.
  • To help you keep your money, we also chip in on your pension, pay for your travels and offer a discount on all the stuff we sell.
  • Room for you to do things your way.
  • Heartwarming help with the international relocation process from start to finish..

That means they need the power of HubSpot to engage with contacts, prospects, and customers when they're not at their desks. Cue the HubSpot mobile team.

We're a small team with big goals. We want to empower our users to grow their businesses from their phones, create an intuitive mobile experience, and help teams collaborate through the HubSpot mobile app. So far, we've made an impact by identifying which use cases are most valuable for users on-the-go (for example, the social media tool for publishing and monitoring real-time social content) and building features that compliment the desktop experience.

We work closely with our product manager and designers to set the vision for what we build. Next, we're building new additions to the mobile experience that will make collaboration and communication between teams, prospects, and customers easier.

We're proud of our mobile tech stack and are keen to contribute to the community through open source projects and the HubSpot Product Blog.

What We're Looking For

None of these are requirements, anybody with strong CS fundamentals, a passion for mobile, and a desire to learn (and better yet, teach us!) would be a great fit.

  • Experience in developing fully featured native Android applications

  • A portfolio or examples of apps you have published to the Google Play store

  • An interest in Kotlin, RxJava or functional programming would be an advantage

  • A desire to build a sustainable product and an appreciation of user experience

  • General engineering experience would be nice to have
