About the Job:

Scrapinghub is looking for a Crawl Consultant to join our Crawlera team.

Crawlera is a smart downloader designed specifically for web crawling and scraping. It allows crawler developers to crawl quickly and reliably by managing thousands of proxies internally. It is part of the Scrapinghub platform, the world’s most comprehensive web crawling stack which powers crawls of over 4 billion pages a month.

Scrapinghub helps companies, ranging from Fortune 500 enterprises to early stage startups, turn web content into useful data with a cloud-based web crawling platform, off-the-shelf datasets, and turn-key web scraping services.

Join us in making the world a better place for web crawler developers with our team of top talented engineers working remotely from more than 30 countries.

Job Responsibilities:

Your key responsibility will be to help customers and internal developers use Crawlera successfully. In order to do this, you will need to:

  • Talk with customers to:

    • Quickly understand both their objectives and their code,

    • Help them fix any underlying issues in their code,

    • Tune & configure Crawlera to best suit each customers’ specific situation.

  • Take proactive measures to measurably improve customers’ ability to successfully use Crawlera without your intervention. You’ll be given a fair amount of autonomy over this, but it will likely include:

    • Improving client libraries, documentation, etc for Crawlera.

    • Providing extended functionality via other products in the Scrapinghub platform, or popular open source frameworks.

    • Liaison with other product teams within Scrapinghub to ensure Crawlera is well integrated in the ways that best serve customers.

This role is perfect for you if:

  • Have excellent communication in written English.

  • Have a strong knowledge of Python, Linux/UNIX, HTTP and Networking.

  • Are comfortable taking ownership in business critical situations; you enjoy being the “go-to” person.

  • Take a logical, measurement-backed approach to prioritizing projects, and enjoy working with others that do the same.

  • Are naturally dissatisfied with inefficiencies and having to do the same thing more than once; you see ways to fix the underlying cause rather than only reacting to what’s in front of you.

  • Have a broad general programming background; strong problem solver.

Bonus points for:

  • Familiarity with techniques and tools for crawling, extracting and processing data, asynchronous communication and distributed systems.

  • Good spoken English and ability to get on calls with particularly high value customers.

  • Previous customer facing experience

(Senior) Golang Engineer | Data Science Platform at Contiamo (Berlin, Germany)

About the role

The challenge: Building a containerized data science environment

  • We offer a flexible data platform enabling businesses to create interactive, data-driven decision tools and automations. Our mission is to combine sophisticated data science with a great user interface and experience.

  • Our ambition is to create a platform that gives data scientists a flexible, consistent, and simple environment based on Docker containers, where their code can be written in a large variety of languages (Python, R, Go, Scala). This tool then turns their code into stateless functions, that can be easily deployed into powerful data pipelines.

  • One of our key projects is building an easily deployable data science environment in Go, which we will open-source in the course of this year.

The stack

Go, Docker, Kubernetes, Git

Your profile

Being fluent in Go is a must . Ideally you have worked on complex applications, maybe even something that has been open-sourced.

We highly appreciate experience in:

  • Go engineering

  • Containerisation (Kubernetes, Docker)

  • Networking (http, http2)

  • Micro-services

About us

Who we are

  • Contiamo is a Berlin-based, fast-growing tech company.

  • We are tech-driven and keep a close watch on recent scientific developments and emerging technologies. We love open-source. We are a very international team with interesting people from all over the world (95% of us have relocated to Berlin).

How we work

  • We strongly believe in the importance of uninterrupted time to get stuff done and quality over quantity when it comes to working hours. We prefer to keep our schedule meeting-light and work in a library-like atmosphere during the core hours.

  • We believe the ability to give and get constructive feedback and express divergent ideas is crucial to make innovation come to life. We live a very open discussion culture and prefer the evaluation of ideas based on merit over top-down decision making.

  • We strongly believe in ownership of one's features, from spec to implementation to operation. We also understand that ownership comes with a sense of responsibility towards others that depend on the results of our work.

  • We believe that that everybody should be able to find meaning in their work. We match assignments based on both ability and individual interests and discuss your progress and individual needs every 3 months.

  • We don't see people as "resources" and genuinely care about each other. We also understand that there's more than fancy perks and cool events to people's satisfaction and engagement. We continuously work towards an environment providing a lot of autonomy, transparency and development opportunities and rely on everybody's feedback to hold us accountable for maintaining our high standards.

About the interview process

How we get to know each other

  1. We like to start out with a brief 20-30min session for a mutual introduction. We tell you about our company, product and culture and are happy to answer any questions you might have. From your side, we're mostly interested in understanding what kind of challenges you're looking for, what technologies you'd like to work with and what role you'd like to be in.
  2. If both sides agree that this could be a good fit, we move on to a more technical session. We ask you to walk us through one of your past projects as if we were new colleagues joining you on the job. The ability to communicate effectively and concisely about complex systems and trade-offs between different approaches is key.
  3. In a second technical session, we discuss some of the technologies and concepts you have used. We also give you a walk-through of our product and solutions, discuss our architecture and components. Finally we try to scope your initial role and focus — should you be joining us.
  4. In the last session, we discuss the remaining details, logistics and plan your relocation.

We see the interview process as a mutual opportunity to get to know each other — at eye level. That's why we won't ask you to work for free on any coding assignments and always strive for responding within hours, not weeks.

Solutions Architect - Ruby/Python/React at Analytics Fire () (allows remote)

Analytics Fire builds custom software for the solar power industry. We’re looking for a collaborative but hands-on Solutions Architect to help us scale our execution to support additional new high-tech sectors.

Analytics Fire is a deeply technical engineering organization. Most of us are software engineers and spend the majority of our time on heads down engineering activities like coding. Our goal in creating this position is to expand our small client-facing team with a unique person that has both the personality and the technical skill set to collaborate directly with clients and senior members of the technical team in order to help steer technical decision making and requirements gathering, especially early in the project lifecycle.

This position is similar to that of a technical Program Manager, but you will be much more involved in the technical details and hurdles around software architecture than a traditional Project Manager would be. Our ideal candidate is a current or former full stack Software Engineer that is willing to be trained in formal Program Management processes (or has already been trained in formal Program Management processes).

As a small company, Analytics Fire is able to tailor roles around the strengths of our individual team members. We will tailor this role to your specific technical background. However, it is a hard requirement that you are able to support the following 3 types of responsibilities:

  • (a) Represent Analytics Fire software engineering teams in client-facing interactions (and sometimes interactions with potential clients)

  • (b) Technical writing responsibilities such as documenting requirements, project plans, system architecture, etc.

  • (c) Making meaningful contributions to the execution of complex software projects.

For reference, here is a list of technologies and tools we are currently actively using on a day-to-day basis:

  • Front-end: JavaScript / React / Angular

  • Back-end: Ruby / Python / Node.js

  • Embedded (IoT): C, Embedded Linux, MQTT

  • Embedded (robotics): C/C++, ROS

  • Modern software techniques: RESTful APIs, SOA, PaaS, etc

  • Agile collaboration and devops tools: Github, Trello, Slack, Chef, Ansible, Docker, Vagrant, etc

  • Other technologies we are currently building with: AWS / Salesforce platform / iOS / ARKit

Your primary responsibility will be to assist in guiding new projects through sales, planning, development, and deployment. This will be accomplished through a combination of client interactions, technical writing, and participation in formal sales, program management, and engineering related processes. Your contributions will naturally be slightly front-loaded towards the sales and planning phases, however you will remain deeply connected to each project through the entire lifecycle in order to ensure conceptual integrity is maintained from design to final implementation.

This is a remote position but is only open to candidates living in the US or Canada. We’re flexible about location and hours. We’re a really great match for candidate who wants to work hard on interesting projects, while also having flexibility around time and geography.

Skills & Requirements

“Must have” requirements:

  • 5+ years relevant hands-on experience as a full stack Software Engineer, DevOps engineer, or Site Reliability Engineer, ideally within a commercial startup environment.

  • Fluency around current modern best practices around software development and DevOps.

  • Soft skills necessary to navigate and negotiate with multiple teams, both internal and external to Analytics Fire.

  • Ability and willingness to familiarize yourself with our technical stack.

  • Superior organization and detail orientation.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Willingness to design, document, and evangelize new engineering processes to meet evolving organizational requirements.

“Nice to have” requirements:

  • Former work experience or training as a technical Program Management.

  • Technical experience with Ruby, Python, or Node.js.

Hei utvikler!

Fortsatt her? Bra!

I Fiken fĂ¥r du
