Senior Python Programmer at Coolblue (Rotterdam, Netherlands)

As a Senior Python Developer, you make fresh collected data available to support company decisions.

What you tell people at parties

"I'm a snake charmer: I can make Python do whatever I want."

What you really do

  • You provide technical support to our Business Analysts, who transform your data to Actionable Insights.
  • Your technical expertise will make Coolblue smarter by assisting a data-driven decision making process.

How you do it

  • You help develop scalable Data Pipelines in Python.
  • You are an all-rounder in a Scrum team. You'll have your own specialization, but you can also perform all other tasks within the team.
  • You prioritize your own work together with your team and Product Owner.
  • You'll work close to our Business Analysts and you will receive immediate feedback from them.
  • You coach your team members and provide feedback.
  • You employ the right tools for whatever job is thrown at you. You'll have a lot of opportunities to experiment new things. Airflow, Redshift, and BigQuery are technologies we're experimenting with at the moment.

Team

You'll work in a Scrum team of 4 to 6 members, mostly consisting Python developers with a passion for data. The team is managed by a Team Lead. The Teams backlog is curated  by the Product Owner and Scrum Master. Your team works closely together with our Business Analysts and a team of Data Scientists, providing them with data they can readily use to support company decisions.

A day at the office

After your morning Scrum standup, Rafael sends you a Pull Request. He introduced a new messaging system to speed up the transfer of data from the ERP system. Together, you review the Pull Request and then merge the code. After that, you join David, the Product Owner. He wants to discuss and design a new architecture to provide the Finance department with insights about Customer Service costs. Just before lunch, you pass by Andres, a data scientist who's working on new Machine Learning algorithm that  can forecast warehouse stock. You help him move some data to BigQuery. You invite him to have lunch together with your team. On the way back, you share your concerns about the Google Adwords ingest process with David. It's losing records, so you want to refactor some of the Python code. You add a few automated tests and send the Pull Request to your team mate, Dirk, for review. At 16:30, the improvements are automatically deployed via our continuous integration pipeline. By 17:30, you're done for the day and, together with your team members, head to the bar for a drink.
