Talented Java Backend Developer with a strong sense of quality at ViaBill A/S () (allows remote)

--- Only apply if you're located within +/- 1 hour from CET ---

We are experiencing strong demand for our e-commerce payment service and are looking for a number of highly skilled software engineers to join our distributed team.

About ViaBill

ViaBill was founded in 2009 with a wish to disrupt the very traditional e-commerce payment methods of Europe. We believe, that online merchants should have an easy implemented solution to offer customers an alternative to instant payment, hence giving customers a chance to evaluate the purchase before actual payment.

We are currently expanding the business towards an US adventure, and targeting Europe in the near future as well.

The Position

You will work both independently and as part of a dedicated developer team of 13 colleagues from all around Europe. Your focus will be on our backend systems so server-side development should be your main interest, although it will certainly be considered a plus if you're also proficient in some of the frontend technologies listed below.

We have a strong focus on transitioning our existing code base towards microservices, so experience in this field would be considered a big plus.

We begin each day with a (daily) standup meeting, and we primarily use Slack to communicate during the day. Every two weeks, the development team comes together in an (informal) Hangouts meeting where usually one or two people introduce or share their experience about a framework (or some other technical topic). Besides that we meet up twice a year to meet each other, discuss topics, code and have fun.

Tech Stack

  • Java 8 / Spring Boot

  • MariaDB / Hibernate

  • ActiveMQ

  • Kafka

  • Camel

  • Angular / TypeScript

We operate in a DevOps environment and we use modern tools like Slack, GitLab and Hangouts for communicating and conducting code reviews.

The Interview Process

  1. If we identify you as a potential candidate after reviewing your cover letter and CV, you'll be asked to complete a programming assignment (within the time frame of a week).
  2. If we're impressed with the results from your assignment, you'll be invited for a Skype/Hangouts meeting where we'd love to hear more about you and discuss the assignment (of course you'll be welcome to ask questions about the position as well).
  3. If we're impressed with you as a candidate, you'll be asked to join our team.

We Offer

A career in the fastest growing FinTech company of Denmark, gaining knowledge of this innovative field of technology. You will be blessed with talented colleagues, thus an opportunity for personal and professional development. You will be able to work remotely, and/or with the possibility of relocating to Denmark (Copenhagen/Aarhus).

Our employees are our greatest asset, and we strive to develop the happiest and most effective team of the European FinTech industry.

You will be working in a fast-paced environment where changes are a normality. You must be able to keep your head cool in a hectic and busy environment. You have a high degree of independence and it is important that you are able to manage several tasks at the same time - also when the deadline is short.

  • You probably have a background as B.Sc. or M.Sc. in computer science or the equivalent in experience.

  • You have worked with highly automated systems before.

  • You are able to see solutions from the perspective of the end user.

  • You should be fluent in English

Data Engineer at H1 (New York, NY)

Our team is building a suite of machine learning tools to help solve problems in the healthcare and life science space. This includes the classification of researchers and physicians to their scholarly research, simulating how effective drug compounds will be, and much more.

We're growing fast in a field that is also growing fast, so we're looking for people who want to grow fast too. We think an environment that is supportive, collaborative, and sophisticated is the key to making this happen.

Experience And Skills

Our data engineers do these kinds of things:

Pull, clean, augment and master data coming from a variety of public and private sources. This goes way beyond simple ETL - we’re preparing data sets that will be used to power machine learning algorithms, not just pulling data out of a database to display in a graph.

Work within a Spark/Scala environment from notebooks through mature pipelines. Our data engineers are equally comfortable writing Scala code to normalize names or pulling together disparate notebook functions into a reusable class architecture.

Explore new ways to extract signal from data, including novel algorithms and approaches. Our most challenging problems within data engineering require a good understanding of both computer science and math (especially linear algebra and probability)

Build out scalable data pipelines on top of AWS infrastructure. Understanding Terraform/Ansible is a plus here, but experience with the AWS stack is necessary (especially Elastic Beanstalk and EMR)

Above all, the data engineering we do at H1 is code-centric, not tool-centric. ETL tools like Talend, Informatica, and the like are all great, but our use case is much more about data analysis than it is about moving and joining data together. For this reason we’re looking for candidates who are comfortable in the Scala/Spark framework.

Designers today are expected to create large amounts of high quality content that can effortlessly live anywhere, and look the same across all screens.  But the current design toolset only allows you to design and prototype, and designing for multi-screens is challenging. Once a designer is ready to publish their design they must either learn to code or hand off their design to a developer to create. This process is lengthy, cumbersome, and often expensive.  With the launch of Famous Studio, designers will be able to easily design beautiful, multi-screen experiences and publish in a single tool.

Values We Look For In Candidates

Famous has developed a five-point brand star of trust that represents the key elements of our brand. Our brand permeates everything we do, and is core to how we build our team.  Our founder Steve Newcomb speaks in this YouTube video about our brand star, and it includes:

  1. Beautiful - Famous is a premium brand that builds exceptional products that are polished and sophisticated.  Every bit of every experience with Famous should feel perfect and high end. However, the downside of this brand star is if we take this too far we could be perceived as being insular, so we offset with our second brand star point. For a Growth Hacker, this could mean building a beautiful UI by which to display data/insights to the broader team.

  2. Empathetic - Famous listens to its customer to create our products.  We offer more than just a product, we offer a partnership where we create a custom solution for our partners.  However, the downside of this brand star is that if we take it too far we could be perceived as being a follower, a company with no vision - so we offset with our third star point. For a Growth Hacker, this could mean developing a script that scrapes user feedback in order to bubble up issues for Famous to address in early product rollouts.

  3. Thoughtful - After listening to our customers and after understanding the macro market conditions, Famous utilizes technology and our know-how to come up with a unique product solution that sets us apart from any other company in our space.  We are inventors, thought leaders, and hold ourselves out as not only the leader in our space, but the creator of it. However, the downside of taking this star point too far, is that we become an island unto ourselves; we become silo’d from society and eventually become out of touch, which is offset by our fourth start point. For a Growth Hacker, this could mean analyzing current client data to help propose new ways of attracting new clients of the same profile

  4. Approachable - Famous is the brilliant, visionary, beautiful “girl next door”.  We are approachable, affable and the type of company that make our customers feel smarter.  We share, we talk and we commune with our customers because we are in it together. However, the downside of taking this star point too far is that a company can be seen as too open and without any magic, which we offset with our final star point. For a Growth Hacker, this could mean working alongside our design team to share insights that guide the creation of stronger content for our website.

  5. Magical - Famous invents unique technology that inspires wonder, creates those ‘Ah Ha!’ moments that create the foundations for making people believe they can change the world.  However, how we do it is something we hold close, hold dear, and do not show people how it’s done. We want our brands to want us to be magical, different, and special.  This brand star point takes us back to our first one to create our full brand star. When you get magic just right, it firmly connects the brand back to being beautiful and full of wonder. For a Growth Hacker, this could mean identifying insights that the Famous Leadership team is not aware exist and end up changing how we think about our audience growth plans.

Senior Front-end Developer at Sisu, Inc. (Los Angeles, CA)

Sisu ( is an award-winning digital design agency, located in sunny Los Angeles, CA. We are dedicated to doing excellent work, building lasting relationships, and cultivating a respectful, inspiring environment. We are looking for a talented, dedicated Senior Front-end Developer to join our team.

While our team is small, our projects and clients are not. We have active projects for a stellar set of entertainment, media, and technology brands, including DC Comics, Disney, American Express, Illumina, Facebook, Western Union, the Grammys, and many more. Projects include responsive media portals; web and native apps; dashboards and enterprise tools; compelling skunkworks projects and more.

The ideal candidate will be inquisitive and driven, with a love for UX, design and technology and a desire to contribute, grow and lead. At Sisu, developers are involved from concept to prototype to final delivery -- guiding clients and internal team members on feasibility, gathering technical requirements, introducing new tech/libraries/approaches, and pushing our creativity. Development serves as a foundation for our work and is critical to transforming static design comps into highly polished, successful products. In the past, this role has been filled by both pure front-end developers and hybrid designers/developers. We are also open to those who lean more towards full stack development.

Historically, our in-house developers have focused on delivering exemplary front-end experiences -- compelling translations of static designs that exhibit adherence to design guidelines; an understanding of how micro-interactions, smooth animations and other techniques bring designs to life; and organized, clean and maintainable coding methodologies. We partner closely with trusted external development agencies that provide complex, custom CMS development, APIs and server architecture. Recently, we have moved further into full stack development in-house, including headless WordPress, web app and API development. We are in the process of defining this ‘Sisu Stack,” and you will be a key team member in the process.

You will guide other in-house front-end developers as well as external technical resources. You will get to work with a variety of technologies and frameworks, and as newer approaches develop and new client needs emerge, you will help us identify them, learn them and add them to the mix.

This is a great position for someone who is eager to grow their toolset; work with smart clients; be part of a thriving, historically-stable design studio; collaborate with friendly people and hang out with a bunch of equally friendly dogs.

  • Fully-paid gym membership to Metro Fitness, located just feet away from our new headquarters

  • Gleaming new 100,000 square foot headquarters complete with a 70-foot climbing wall, showers, lockers, and bike parking
