Common Lisp Software Intern (Research) - Summer 2022 at GrammaTech, Inc. (Ithaca, NY) (allows remote)

GrammaTech’s Common Lisp Software internship program offers students the opportunity to gain real experience in a friendly, open, and supportive environment. We choose projects based on real needs, and interns work closely with engineers to make sure that projects are completed successfully.


Current COMMON LISP IS REQURED FOR THIS ROLE.


GrammaTech will conduct a series of programming tests and screening interviews in Common Lisp right from the start as part of our process. You must know Common Lisp now, unfortunately we cannot train for an internship role . (Please do not apply if you do not have experience with Lisp.)


Location: Remote in USA Only or the possibility of being in our Ithaca, NY office for the summer. (COVID Restrictions will be considered as we get closer to the summer.)


Responsibilities:


Research projects at GrammaTech can take on a wide variety of topics and challenges. Projects focus on software assurance, software protection, reverse engineering, and software transformation. We do both static and dynamic analysis on both source and object code, in order to tackle serious problems with practical solutions.


Potential projects include:



  • Apply compiler optimizations to binaries. Develop some classic compiler optimizations on top of our Binary IR (https://bit.ly/3lqeTJy)

  • Develop source-code program transformations for refactoring, optimization, and diversification on top of our Software Evolution Library (https://bit.ly/2JldA1y)

  • Design and run large-scale experiments evaluating automated software modification and automated software engineering tools


Qualifications:


Required



  • Currently enrolled in a BS, MS, or PhD program

  • Excellent programming skills with Common LISP (required)


Preferred



  • Enrollment in a Computer Science PhD program

Lead Frontend Engineer – Role Overview:


As the Lead Frontend Engineer, day to day you’ll be working closely with the other Engineers in the Squad ensuring the product is evolving to meet the overall roadmap and strategy, as well as defining the Frontend development best practices and building upon the existing methodology and tools.


This will require you to be hands-on for approximately 40% of the time, with the other 60% spent on leading and line managing other Frontend Engineers working in the squad and across the chapter. Driving best practice; you’ll coach and mentor, provide regular 1-2-1s, OKR’s and career development opportunities as well as working closely with the VP Product Engineering to recruit more talent as we grow.


Working closely with the CTO and VP Product Engineering, you will have a significant influence and support to lead a great Frontend chapter, responsible for creating the award-winning OneHub platform.


Frontend stack: React, Redux, Saga, JavaScript, ES6, HTML, CSS, TypeScript and GraphQL coming soon.


What you’ll be responsible for:



  • Be the technical lead and line manage the Frontend chapter

  • Hold regular 1-2-1 sessions to mentor and coach your chapter

  • Collaborate with the CTO, Principal Engineer and other Lead Engineers to architect the best solutions and strategy for the OneHub products.

  • Hands-on collaboration with the squad Engineers to analyse, design and deliver new Product features.

  • Evolve the current coding standards and increase the documentation across the Frontend chapter.

  • Ensure work is delivered to a high standard and manage technical debt as part of the Frontend strategy.

  • Using frontend technologies including React, Redux, GraphQL, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, deliver maintainable frontend applications written with a test first approach.

  • Work closely with the UX Designer to translate designs seamlessly into frontend components thinking about accessibility, usability and implementation.


Career Progression:



  • The Chapter will continue to grow, as Lead Frontend Engineer you’ll work with the CTO and VPE on hiring plans and be responsible for hiring new engineers. Once the Chapter reaches a certain size (~10 engineers) you’ll move into a hands-off management role and progress through the management track.

  • £800 annual learning budget and days taken for training or events are not taken as holiday!!

  • ‘Focus Friday’s’ - two hours out in your diary for self-development.


Salary and Package:



  • £80-100,000

  • Flexible working. Choose whether you’d like to work fully remote or be a hybrid worker spending some time in our Southampton office.
