Data is at the heart of everything we do.  The DataOps Engineering team is responsible for building and maintaining a cutting edge data platform that provides quality data for to all users of the Aladdin platform, including investors, operations staff, data scientists, Aladdin applications and engineers.

Team Overview

Data is at the core of the Aladdin platform and our ability to consume, store, analyze and gain insight from data is a key component of our competitive advantage. The DataOps Engineering team is responsible for the data ecosystem within BlackRock. Our goal is to provide highly available, consistent data of the highest quality to our clients, while evolving our platform to deliver exponential scale to the firm and powering the future growth of Aladdin. We engineer high performance data pipelines, provide a fabric to discover and consume data and continually evolve our data storage capabilities. We believe in writing small, testable code with a focus on innovation. We are committed to open source and we regularly contribute our work back to the community.

Role Responsibility

The DevOps chapter lead will be responsible for end to end data pipeline and messaging fabric infrastructure. In practice this means accelerating from R&D to production technologies such as native cloud, K8 and Kafka to support key data supply chain technologies such as ALE and Astra. This newly formed chapter will include embedded DevOps engineers reporting to the chapter lead. The Lead and the engineers will need to work in close coordination with teams at the firm working on these topics to ensure we both hit our target project milestone deliverables and do so in a highly aligned fashion with the broader firms evolving technology strategy. This role has a seat on on the DataOps management team, and likely TES extended ExCo and APG OpCo.

The DevOps Chapter Lead and DevOps engineers will be deployed within DataOps squads to assist in the build out and deployment of the future state data supply chain, examples include:

Acquisition: Help evolve Aladdin Loading Engine into a full-feature, cloud and container ready ETL capable of supporting all data loading and transformation requirements for ref data, index data and client data in new and flexible data schemas

Quality: Assist in the sourcing of real time performance monitoring and data driven KPIs for data and system quality through providing the right infrastructure

Production: Support the transition from batch to event driven production by re-underwriting the messaging fabric of the future state supply chain, enabling seamless, persistent messaging within the nextgen orchestration framework (eg Instamatic, Astra)

Distribution: Support the selection and build out of fit for purpose data stores to power our distribution of data via service and API gateways to Aladdin apps, Aladdin engineers and data scientists

Experience

* 10-15+ years of experience in financial technology or a related technical field, implementing DeOps methodology tool chain
* Experience with Cloud Native platforms, both hosted and on-premise
* Experience working closely with Systems Engineers and Technology teams
* Working knowledge of building and deploying distributed systems
* Experience with scripting languages such as Python or Ruby
* Experience with software deployment and orchestration technologies such as Helm, Docker, Kubernetes, OpenStack, etc.
* Experience supporting databases and datastores e.g. MongoDB, Redis, Cassandra, Ignite, Hadoop, S3
* Experience in messaging and streaming platforms such as NATS or Kafka
* Experience in creating and evolving CI/CD pipelines with GitLab or Github following GitOps principles
* A passion for engineering highly available, performant systems
* Experience in security fundamentals
* Experience in troubleshooting and system administration tasks in Linux or Unix
* Experience in networking, coordination and service discovery

Responsibilities
The Senior Systems Engineer will provide technical support and leadership to the SRT team as we integrate, deploy, validate, monitor, and support services and applications on the PlayStation Network. Responsibilities include:
  • Work with developers in resolving issues related application configuration/deployment/debugging.
  • Proactive monitoring of production systems and identify issues before system impact.
  • Hands-on application management and support for both development and production environments, including fault resolution and root cause analysis for critical issues.
  • Develop monitoring tools/metrics/reports for tracking application/service performance in AWS for both EC2 and EKS.
  • Work with engineering and system teams to recommend changes and ensure optimal monitoring and detection performance and robustness.
  • Participate in software and system performance analysis, service capacity planning, and service continuity validation.
  • Analyze, design, and develop automated scripts/tools to automate operational tasks/activities in AWS.
  • Review and influence design, architecture, standards, and methods for deploying and operating SRT services in AWS.
  • Actively participate and/or commit in the execution of tasks required to meet the milestones and deliverables set by the SCRUM team throughout the release cycle.
  • Provide rotational on-call support.

Qualifications
  • BS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical discipline.
  • 5 years background of Linux experience (RHEL, CentOS, AWS Linux preferred).
  • 5 years relevant work experience in an ultra-high-volume and/or critical production environment.
  • Experience with log aggregators and timeseries engine tools such as Splunk, Logstash, Kibana, Metrictank, Carbon-relay-ng.
  • Experience with metric visualization tools such as Grafana and Kibana.
  • Exceptional scripting skills (python preferred)
  • Experience with repository tools such as YUM and Github.
  • Experience with key value mapping using HashiCorp Consul
  • Familiarity with CI tool Jenkins
  • Experience with container orchestration Amazon EC2, Docker and Kubernetes and the use of AWS YAML cloud formation templates.
  • Experience with Agile SCRUM development methodologies, Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD).
  • Solid understanding of networking systems and protocols - TCP/IP, SSL, DNS, HTTP.
  • Proficient using network monitoring tools (Nagios, Sensu, CheckMK, DataDog etc.)
  • Experience in quality control and validating services in a production environment.
  • Familiarity with application performance monitoring tools such as CA APM or NetApp.

Technical Skills

  • Strong experience evaluating, specifying, and troubleshooting large enterprise Windows Client/Server architectures including network components (firewalls, switches), load balancers, different data bases, and virtual environments. Should include a strong emphasis on deployment planning, troubleshooting, upgrading, integration, and maintenance of client/server operations. Also, should include the ability to take a creative approach to problem solving, including troubleshooting and workaround identification.
  • Comfortable interacting with all levels of management
  • Ability to work well with a variety of customer roles and management levels (e.g. IT engineers, developers, IT managers and Business owners personnel), engaging with them at the appropriate technical level.
  • Experience in management of large enterprise customers including of technical projects requiring coordination of various resources for successful outcomes.

Your mission is to embrace continuous integration/deployment in a delivery pipeline that will perform automated quality checks, deploy cloud infrastructure and applications quickly, and provide operational metrics that can be consumed by development teams. Responsibilities:
* Follow the teams standards to create and manage an automated DevOps release management pipeline which delivers tooling for next generation application development efforts (the Dev) and on-going production operations (the Ops). Cultivate a Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery mind set.
* Collaborate with DevOPs engineers and Cloud architect to support development teams with a full set of DevOps ALM tools by leading the establishment of the right tooling and processes that will result in a fully automated release management pipeline to include: the Automated build process, environment setups, testing scripts, deployments, and production operational metrics/debugging information (to target developers).
* Partner with development and operations teams to facilitate practical automation solutions and custom modules.  Troubleshoot automation issues and wen required engage the resources to find practical solutions that move projects forward in a timely manner.
* Be a trusted automation and tooling advisor for DevOps initiatives by providing objective, practical and relevant ideas, insights and advice.
* Deliver tasks based on project objectives; technically support projects through to completion.  Ensure deliverables are completed within target timeframes and are consistently of high-quality, documented and support transition of operational activities
* Collect and format the data required for established KPIs to ensure performance is measured against expected business outcomes.
* Work with teams to bring continuous improvement to DevOps processes and tools.

Job Description
