React / React Native Developer at Qvik (Helsinki, Finland)

GOT AN ITCH FOR AN AMAZING UI?

We’re now looking for new Qvikies to join our front-end team! In this position you’ll get a chance to collaborate with business and API teams to build simple, scalable and innovative mobile and web experiences. You’ll manage the complete development cycle including testing, integration and publishing. We will of course offer you colleagues who’ll help you further to master (native) apps using only one codebase – and all the tools needed to create superb things with JavaScript!

We have React / React Native Qvikies in teams working at, for example, our media, travel and finance sector customers. And it would be great to hear from you if you would like to join them!

YOUR SKILLS

You have experience in building web or mobile applications. If you don't have mobile developer background, not to worry. We have a house full of those to guide you towards the right direction. Motivation has to come from you, we'll support you with the rest.

Previous experience in React and/or ReactNative framework(s) is needed. Your deep expertise of JS and CSS allow you to optimize your code for foolproof performance. Your forte is a strong knowledge of “Vanilla” JavaScript. Also an understanding of Android and iOS ecosystems – and their guidelines for app development – are things that interest you and that you, preferably, already master. You’re also someone who’s equally passionate about what makes great UX as well as solid front-end architecture.

You have experience interfacing with REST APIs, writing unit tests, using npm and magnificent debugging and troubleshooting skills. A bonus is if you embrace such skills as experience using Flexbox layout, implementing Flux pattern, and Javascript ES6 & ES7 features. Also, Finnish skills are seen as a plus, depending on the client, in some cases even mandatory.

INTERESTED?

Our office is located in the heart of Helsinki in Kamppi shopping center office spaces.

We offer our low hierarchy culture; opportunities to try, fail and succeed; as well as a chance for you to concentrate on your actual work. That’s what you would come here for, right?

Our benefits package is also pretty nice with flexible working hours, the work equipment of your choice; lunch coupons; commuter, culture and sports benefits; occupational health care with extra insurance; company-paid massage; and many sports and hobby possibilities with other Qvikies.

In addition to many work-related guilds and other development opportunities, we arrange a lot of internal and external get-togethers and events throughout the year, in Finland and abroad.

Send an application - We’ll fill the positions as soon as we find the right match!

We are hiring for other tech positions, too: http://bit.ly/2wEneSL

Mobile Developer (iOS, Android) at Qvik (Helsinki, Finland)

Since 2008, we at Qvik have been building mobile experiences for consumers, e.g. in the fields of media, finance, travel and mobility, and retail. If you've used Yle Uutisvahti media services or MaaS Global’s Whim app for commuting, booked trips through Aurinkomatkat, traveled with Tallink Silja or used Sanoma's Aku Ankka Lataamo app to read cartoons, our developers and designers have been there to create your iOS and/or Android experience. We also supported our customer St1 to bring Apple Pay to Finland by building St1 Finance’s mobile app and infrastructure as well as the Apple Pay integration. We are also currently cooperating with major Finnish companies in the fields of, for example, finance and logistics, on services that most Finns will be using later this year.

Do these sound like projects you would have liked to work on? If so, come and work with our next ones!

WHAT SHOULD YOU KNOW?

Your tech skills should heavily rely on Objective-C, Swift, Java or Kotlin. You should also have good Finnish skills. Experience in any other languages, platforms, technologies or environments are a definite plus for you as a future Qvikie. Responsive design and native apps are the things that make you tick. Any apps already in the store will show a good case for your experience. Seniority in leading projects, mastering agile methodologies, and passion for solving multifaceted tech problems is a definite plus.

Also the ability to thrive in a multi-vendor environment and seamlessly working together with both your team and the customer are things that we truly appreciate. Usually most of the work occurs at our customers’ premises, so having initiative, self-discipline and being active are important in terms of your own development and project success.

But, in the end, we are not looking for super heros. Just normal, skilled, fun-to-work-with kinda people who want to share their talent but also constantly learn more through working with experienced colleagues. The kind of people who consider the sky as their limit. The kind of people who have goals and the ability to get there.

Cloud backend developer (Python, GO, Node.js) at Qvik (Helsinki, Finland)

We’re again looking for Backend Developers or cloud experts to join our crew!

WHAT WOULD I BE DOING, YOU ASK?

Some of our most recent work includes building cloud backends for financial institutions, healthcare sector, retail and logistics. We’ve also been involved in several machine learning and data analysis cases. To put it short: we design and build scalable cloud backends for our customers, and we hope that’s what you would love to do, as well. With us you will also have the opportunity to create your own development path as a professional, and learn new skills along with your projects.

You will be using your heavy tech and problem-solving skills to ensure foolproof backends for our customers' services. In addition to coding, you will be mentoring your juniors, consulting our customers on the best technologies and solutions, and attending the most intriguing events in the field.

We’ll provide you with the tools and opportunities to develop your skills further, as well as the freedom to come up with your own ways to create infra. We’re not fond of sticking to “the good old times”. We have many interesting projects starting and our customers expect nothing but the best from us. Therefore, we expect you to have experience, opinions and skills to prove your point. In addition to, of course, a hunger to work with the coolest clients in Finland and the Nordics.

WHO ARE YOU?

You’re either a medior or a senior level backend master and you know your way around the essentials such as Python and its frameworks, Go and Node.js. You probably have previous experience in GCP or AWS cloud solutions, or even certifications, but at least you should have the hunger to learn. You enjoy building and designing infrastructures, and are on fire when talking about anything running on the App Engine. You may already be familiar with managed platforms, and you should have good Finnish language skills. You want to work in a team and deeply understand the needs of a customer.

Senior Database Reliability Engineer at Coolblue (Rotterdam, Netherlands)

  • You continuously improve our Oracle database environments.
  • You make sure our MS-SQL and MySQL environments are optimally managed.

How you do it

  • You have Oracle database as your core skill, but you also know your way around MS SQL and MySQL.
  • You design and build supporting systems needed to keep a database up and running.
  • Youre hands-on, working with your team to design, implement, deliver, and troubleshoot the databases for Coolblue.
  • You present your ideas in a simple way so its understood by all techies and non-techies alike.

You'll work in a team of multidisciplinary Engineers with various areas of expertise. This means that you will have the opportunity to expand your skill set to other areas or simply have a full view on how everything comes together, enabling you to make an even bigger impact. Your team will be complemented by a Scrum Master and a Product Owner.

A day at the office

This morning you start checking the newly delivered Oracle schema changes pipeline. It looks good and youre happy to report in the stand-up that its ready for use.

After the stand-up, you get together with Jos, who is a Developer, to discuss the MS-SQL statement improvements youve caught the day before in Datadog. It seems likely that we could reduce the execution time by optimizing the statement slightly.

This sounds very promising and after a brainstorm with your team and Jos, you come up with several changes that could be made. You work together with Jos to make the SQL statement modifications and push them through our database deployment pipeline. After that, it's lunchtime!

In the afternoon, you have a refinement session on upcoming stories and ideas with the team and the Product Owner. The team chooses to focus on exploring AWS Aurora capabilities. You are excited to learn more about this, and after a refuelling at lunch, youre ready for the session.

You will have to check the final PR later, because the day will end with a meeting with a few other enthusiastic developers. You have a great idea for implementing new technology that will reduce time to first byte by 10 to 20%. Showering has never been more useful.

What we're asking

  • You love a challenge and you have a way to prove this.
  • You understand version control, specifically Git(hub).
  • You have 6-8 years experience as a Front-end developer, preferably in an agile environment.
  • You get the sense and nonsense of ES2017, React, CSS-in-JS and composition.
  • You are the final boss in the game of HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
  • Youre proud of what you do and you welcome feedback.
  • To you it's not just about tables or divs, but about semantics.
  • Your English has the best words.
  • You're willing to relocate to Rotterdam, or somewhere close.

What we're offering

  • Money.
  • Over 30 training courses at our own Coolblue University.
  • Relocation assistance, from A to Z (if you live abroad).
  • Dutch language courses. To help you become a Rotterdammert.
  • Discount on a new bicycle. Because that's how we roll.
  • A 10% discount on all of our products.
  • An awesome workplace. With freshly prepared meals, monthly TGIF drinks, epic Coolblue parties, team activities, and an informal, playful office space.
  • 25 paid leave days. As long as you'll promise to come back.

DevOps Engineer, AWS, Docker, Kubernetes at Aperio Group, LLC (Sausalito, CA)

Have you ever thought money managers charge too much for investment advice? You are right. At Aperio Group, our strategies are designed to minimize costs and to place environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations at the center of our investment advice. This approach results in sustainable and ethical investing. We are a quantitative/index-tracking investment management firm with $25 billion in assets under management. We specialize in managing customized equity portfolios in a tax-efficient way. Our headquarters are in Sausalito, only 1 block from the beautiful harbor. It’s a short, 20 minute drive from much of SF (opposite the normal commute), and many of our team members are spread throughout San Francisco, the North Bay and East Bay.

For everything that Aperio does, we use custom-developed software. Therefore, software is the bloodstream of our company. Decisions that we make on a daily basis are automated and data driven, requiring minimal human intervention. We are looking for a DevOps engineer that can help us automate configuration and maintain concurrent environments, facilitate utilization of cloud platforms and help us scale as the company grows. The role is open for a senior-level, hands on engineer who wants to become a part of an amazing team.

You will join a (relatively) hip team, and everyone who works here is great—not just good—at what they do. That’s by design. We give our best every day, and we want to maintain that standard. We like having fun, so we play board games during lunch time and spike ball and kick ball after work.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Establish build, release and configuration management of production systems

  • Automate deployment, monitoring, maintenance and management of production software on premise and in cloud environments

  • Maintain segregated environment across projects and phases of development (dev, staging, qa, prod)

  • Take ownership of release process across environments

  • Facilitate change propagation across environments

  • Establish and enforce change management procedures for each project/environment

  • Maintain documentation describing topology of the whole development ecosystem

  • Serve as the 1st line of defense when production issues occur and assist the help desk in triage of issues

  • You did all of the above (among other things) for at least 5 years in an enterprise environment

  • (A lot of) experience with at least one modern cloud ecosystem (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, etc.)

  • You think containerization/virtualization is better than sliced bread and you worked with at least one platform (Docker, Vagrant, etc.)

  • Experience with provisioning tools used for automated deployment (Puppet, Ansible, etc.)

  • Experience with build tools used in continuous integration environments (Jenking, Circle CI, Travis, etc.)

  • Deep knowledge of security best practices

Bonus Points for This Role

  • BS or higher degree in a discipline that teaches data structures, flow control, and relational databases

  • Experience setting up and maintaining continuous integration environments where feature tracking, source control, build/deploy and testing environments are connected and part of automated process

  • Experience in the financial services or investment management sector

  • You think the profile description was at least, slightly interesting!

Please be advised that Aperio Group currently does not provide visa sponsorship. Please make sure to specify immigration status and compensation expectations in notes section when applying for this position.
