Site Reliability Engineer at GfK (Sofia, Bulgaria)

About You...

You are an experienced DevOps or Site Reliability Engineer with a passion for cloud infrastructure and automation. You’re a self-starter and you love keeping up to date with the latest developments in cloud, configuration management and container technologies. You understand the benefits of an immutable infrastructure and you enjoy enabling self-service deployments through continuous delivery pipelines.

However, you have a head for operations and you know that security, backups, scalability and resilience are a paramount concern. In fact, you have a keen interest in security and you’re always looking for ways to use infrastructure-as-code to achieve security and compliance at scale. You understand that costs are a concern for the modern infrastructure engineer and you’re always looking for ways to reduce them.

You thrive in a collaborative DevOps culture and you love to work as part of a cross-functional agile product delivery team alongside developers, data scientists, product owners and technical architects.

Your responsibilities...

  • You will be part of one of our Sofia, Bulgaria based engineering squads and supporting the team with AWS based infrastructure, automation and tooling to run and support one of our strategic products.

  • The team is not expecting you to do all the heavy (DevOps) lifting, as that is not what DevOps is about. The team is waiting for an expert SRE or DevOps engineer skilled and knowledgeable in everything from CI/CD to Kubernetes/Docker automation eager to teach the team how to best use these tools to their advantage.

  • You will be automating the build and deployment of infrastructure using tools such as Terraform, Puppet, Docker, Kubernetes & other orchestration technologies in a hybrid-cloud environment. You will influence architectural decisions with focus on operability, security, scalability, cost and performance.

  • Part of your role will be to set up and maintain monitoring, metrics and reporting systems for fine-grained observability and actionable alerting and also create and maintain appropriate backup, restore and redundancy solutions for business-critical data.

In short: you will be the facilitator of the next generation (cloud) infrastructure and tooling enabling developers to run their own code, as it should be in a real DevOps environment!

Your skills...

  • Expert Linux administration skills and deep understanding of networking and TCP/IP

  • Strong experience with AWS and Terraform

  • Excellent knowledge of technical architecture and modern day design patterns, including micro-services, serverless functions, NoSQL, RESTful APIs, etc.

  • Demonstrable skills in a Configuration Management tool (We use Puppet and Ansible)

  • Set up and supporting CI/CD pipelines and tooling such as Jenkins, Bamboo or TeamCity

  • Proficiency in a high level programming language such as Python, Ruby, Go or Java

  • Monitoring, log aggregation and alerting tooling (Cloudwatch, New Relic, Splunk, ELK)

  • Experience with Docker and preferably Kubernetes

  • Helpful but not essential to have some experience with big data technologies such as Hadoop, HDFS, Spark

  • Also helpful would be data streaming technologies such as Kafka, Flume, and Kinesis

  • Excellent level of English language – both written and spoken

  • University degree or college diploma in computer science or similar qualification

Be welcome to send us your up to date CV in English and we will offer in return…

  • Global know how in a world class, pioneer market research organization

  • Initial and ongoing trainings to support your development

  • Opportunities for personal and professional growth
