QA Architect and Team Lead at SA Ignite (Chicago, IL)

QA Architect and Team Leader

About Us

At SA Ignite we're confronting some of healthcare's most vexing challenges.

Healthcare providers now have to operate in the most dynamic and rapidly changing business environment they've ever seen. Their revenue models are getting turned upside down with the shift from fee-for-service to fee-for-value. They have to comply with complex, often opaque, program rules that create a heavy intellectual and administrative burden. They have to use imperfect, often incomplete information to make decision and take action. These challenges are forcing them to reconsider their processes, management philosophies and even their cultures.

That’s where we come in. We help our customers not just navigate today’s complex operating environment but excel within it. We leverage our deep domain, technical and data expertise to help our customers achieve higher standards of performance year after year. We are not “tool makers:” we combine powerful analytics that surface improvement opportunities that are truly actionable with a management framework that engages all stakeholders in realizing them. We don’t like half measures: our focus is on solving the whole problem of how to deliver exceptional financial results in a value-based world.

Our people are our strength. We depend on our street smarts and a healthy dose of Midwestern humility to get the job done. And, we do it all while having fun and not taking ourselves too seriously.

Job Description:

We are launching a substantial new product development initiative that will become the foundation of our business and drive our future growth. We’re using this initiative to reconsider our software development lifecycle, our agile processes and our quality assurance philosophy. We’re looking for a QA Architect and Team Leader who can take our software testing strategy and execution to the next level. We want to more deeply embed QA in our end to end process instead of it being at the end of the development chain. We want our engineers to incorporate automated testing and test-driven development principles into their thinking.

We have ambitious goals. If you are intrigued by the opportunity to apply everything you know about embedding quality into a development process AND actually implement those ideas in an environment receptive to growth and change, you may be a great candidate for this position. If you thrive on a challenge, are a creative problem solver and have a passion for our mission to deliver the operating system that powers the transition to value-based care, please come talk to us.

Responsibilities:

  • Define our end-to-end quality assurance strategy, principles and process, including implementing test driven development principles and practices where appropriate

  • Incorporate and evangelize agile testing/QA best practices into our end-to-end product development process

  • Understand our technical, platform and product architecture(s) and use this understanding to inform our QA strategy and approach

  • Participate in design and estimation activities to ensure that developed product can be effectively tested

  • Lead and manage our QA team

  • Determine the tools and technology (e.g., automated testing tools and frameworks) that we should use to bring higher productivity and effectiveness to our QA process

  • Educate the QA team and engineers on how to leverage selected tools and technology

  • Help engineers develop effective testing strategies for their code

  • Advise product, engineering and organizational leadership on the effectiveness of our QA process

This position is based in our Chicago (West Loop) office and reports to our Chief Product Officer.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, information systems, engineering or related field

  • 9+ years of quality assurance related professional experience at a commercial software vendor

  • 3+ years of experience managing QA teams

  • Led process transformation projects relating to QA

  • An architect’s mindset: frameworks, patterns, reuse, research, prototyping

  • A strong understanding of QA strategies and best practices within an agile development environment

  • Experience deploying and using test automation tools and frameworks such as Selenium, Telerik TestStudio, HP-UFT, TestComplete, etc.

  • Experience integrating automated testing frameworks into working software

  • A working knowledge of Java, JSP, SQL, JSON, RESTful APIs, etc.

  • Experience testing both back end services and web applications

  • A demonstrated ability to learn and become proficient on new technologies and approaches

  • A servant leadership mindset: sees the team’s success as their success

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and exceptional collaboration skills

  • Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills

Site Reliability Engineer / Cloud Architect at RiksTV AS (Oslo, Norway)

RiksTV is in the midst of an agile transformation. We have organized the entire company in interdisciplinary dual leadership teams. In order to offer scalable and high-performing services, we are currently establishing a new team of Site Reliability Engineers (SRE). This team will be responsible for the overall architecture and operation of the platform where we run our services (streaming, metadata, auxiliary services, etc).

We are looking for people who enjoy shaping their own work and who have a genuine interest in building a modern platform and with the processes and routines that go with it. You relentlessly automate repetitive tasks. You have an opinion, and you are not afraid to voice it. You may have earned your stars in operations, or you may be a full-stack dev who is fascinated by cloud and building scalable systems.

What you will be doing as a member of RiksTV SRE

You will help build a brand new team from scratch, and you will have a unique opportunity to influence how the team will work. Our SRE will use cloud technology to build scalable and highly reliable services that our customers can trust. Currently we run on a mix of Azure and AWS.

SRE will design, build and operate the underlying platform where we run our services. The team will work closely with the other dev teams in RiksTV and provide guidance in areas such as overall architecture, scalability and “cloud-friendliness”. An important part of the team’s responsibilities is to help developers write software that scales, and to assist in migrate existing services from our legacy hosting platforms to the cloud.

Team members will be on-call in order to provide rapid remediation of any critical platform failures.

Experience we are looking for

We are using C#, Python, Powershell and Javascript, so you need to have strong skills in at least one of these programming or scripting languages. You must also have experience with:

  • At least one of the “big three” public cloud providers,

  • Declarative provisioning using tools such as Terraform, ARM or CloudFormation

  • Ops and continuous integration/continuous deployment/release engineering.

As we are huge fans of Elasticsearch and Kubernetes it’s a big plus with experience within monitoring/instrumentation systems and/or centralized logging and experience with container-based microservices.

You have at least beginner-level experience with one or more configuration management systems, such as Ansible, Chef, Puppet or Powershell DSC, and you know your way around both Linux and Windows operating systems.

You're fluent (both written and spoken) in Norwegain and/or English.

You'll be working with colleagues mostly located in our awesome office space in Oslo, Norway. You should be located close enough to be able to travel to the office from time to time.
