The Senior Systems Programming Analyst is responsible for the evaluation, design, development, testing, operational maintenance, protection, and support of UPS technology assets through the entire life cycle (e.g., mainframe, midrange, open systems and x86/x64 architectures, storage, mobile and fixed devices, etc.). He/She contributes to the management of the evaluation, design, testing, implementation, maintenance, performance, capacity tuning, and support of third-party infrastructures, applications, and appliances (i.e., transaction, collaboration, communications protocols, application delivery, virtualization, and directory services). This position executes analysis, design, implementation, maintenance, and support of storage and back-up and recovery solutions. The Senior Systems Programming Analyst provides analysis, design, implementation, maintenance, and support of an Information Systems Security model for UPS Information Services (I.S.) environments (e.g., open systems and x86/x64 architectures, mobile and fixed devices, etc.). He/She performs planning, diagnoses risk and system issues, and takes corrective actions to ensure continuity of operations. This position identifies and implements technologies and processes to improve the reliability, efficiency, and availability of the systems environment. He/She develops business continuity design. This position utilizes supplied specifications and standardized tools for work assignments of moderate risk, impact, complexity, and scope.


Responsibilities and Duties



  • Analyzes business requirements needed to develop technical solutions and design specifications

  • Designs, develops, implements, maintains, and supports customized OS installations to meet business requirements

  • Develops customized third-party software installations to meet business requirements

  • Designs, builds, tests, implements and supports customized automation solutions to meet business requirements

  • Drafts design documentation and diagrams (e.g., physical data flows, file layouts, common routines and utilities, program specifications, etc.) to meet business requirements

  • Develops, maintains, troubleshoots, and administers complex software distribution infrastructure to facilitate distributions

  • Delivers project milestones and dependencies and communicates with senior management to implement systems

  • Interacts with vendors to resolve associated software problems and to optimize systems.

  • Designs and utilizes automation tools to ensure optimal throughput and process enhancements for system operations

  • Designs, builds, tests, implements, and supports customized automation solutions to meet business needs


Skills and Knowledge



  • Demonstrates an understanding of the basic need for technical support in a business; demonstrates awareness of the primary uses of technology by business representatives, demonstrates a basic understanding of the systems of the enterprise.

  • Understands UPS products, services, and internal systems: asks appropriate questions to gain clear understanding of system issues; documents and clearly communicate system issues to appropriate groups (e.g. Information Services, User Reps, TSG, system users, etc.).

  • Identifies key factors behind basic problems and establish a path to solve them; proposes approaches to solve problems that are more complicated; investigates and diagnoses anomalies in routine business results.

  • Monitors actions to investigate and resolve incidents and problems in systems and services.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the various types of system tools and utilities available on the market; demonstrates understanding of the role of system tools, utilities, and related processes in optimizing systems and applications development, accessibility, administration, and management.

  • Reviews requirements and specifications and defines test requirements for smaller projects. Creates simple test cases and test scripts. Interprets and executes moderately complex test scripts, mapping back to pre-determined criteria, and recording and reporting outcomes. Provides specialist advice to support others. Analyzes and reports test activities and results. Identifies and reports issues and risks.

  • Lists basic design specifications linked to business requirements; describes the importance of quality design and development procedures; outlines design and development.

  • Possesses ability to generate simple reports using basic functions in software, and/or writing basic queries; identifies information required to complete reports and identifies existing reports generated by others

  • Diagnoses technical problems by utilizing pre-defined steps and available tools and manages simple technical problems. Contributes to making recommendations for the resolution of problems. Participates in walk through, tests for critical processes and applications, and assists in identifying deficiencies and inefficiencies. Assists with making agreed upon changes designed to improve processes and applications.


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National of the U.S., an alien lawfully admitted for permanent residence, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. for this employer

  • Employer will not sponsor a visa for this or future positions.

  • Must be currently located in the same geographic location as the job or willing to relocate yourself

  • Must have a Bachelor’s Degree (or internationally comparable degree) or a current UPS employee with three years of UPS experience

  • Must have PowerShell and scripting experience

  • Must have Endpoint Management IBM Bigfix Lifecycle experience
