SUMMARY

The Senior SQL Server Database Administrator will manage the Microsoft SQL Server platform solutions. The Senior SQL Server Database Administrator is also responsible for BI solutions from requirements capture through the design, development, testing, and deployment. The Senior SQL Server Database Administrator serves as the functional data and reporting lead between Finance, Operations, and the Information Technology teams, to include C-level executives, and vendors to satisfy complex and evolving reporting requirements.    

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Coordinates and maintains all Microsoft SQL Server environments.  Ensures all operational database processes are properly monitored, executing appropriately, and have adequate exception handling, including but not limited to database backups, performance tuning, space optimization, and security. Assists others with tuning SQL queries and troubleshooting data-related issues. Designs, develops, tests, and implements long-term physical architecture of server solutions for Microsoft SQL Server database platform, ensuring redundancy and failover.  Performs account administration and user management in Microsoft SQL Server, developing manageable automated solutions for account management. Designs, develops, executes, and maintains SQL Data Definition Language (DDL) and Data Manipulation Language (DML), including stored procedures, functions, views, keys, and indexes.

  • Establishes standards, architecture, and designs for Business Intelligence solutions using Microsoft SQL Server, and the Microsoft BI Stack (SSIS, SSRS, SSAS, PowerBI). Partners with Finance, Operations, IT, and other business units to understand and satisfy their reporting and other technology needs. Responsible for data modeling, analysis, ETL, and reporting solutions from inception to decommissioning.  Provide guidance to reducing data latency across ETL architecture and building intelligent processes that optimize delivery of actionable information.

  • Executes SharePoint Administration, including managing site collections and core administrative duties. Ensures stability of SharePoint environment.

  • Provides direction on the scope of projects, scheduling requirements, and resource requirements for all data-related initiatives. Collaborates with internal groups to identify and prioritize business needs. Assists in troubleshooting, streamlining, and executing potential and/or current business challenges regarding data and analytical needs.
  • Responsible for developing and executing test scripts, plans, and scenarios to ensure quality of deliverables.Oversees change control and quality assurance for all data activities within scope.Contributes to the development and preparation of budgets, policies and procedures.Effectively engages with vendors and utilizes third-party tools where appropriate.
  • Oversees end-user training and support related to the all in-scope systems. Maintains relevant industry knowledge regarding Microsoft SQL Server tools, techniques, product, best practices, processes and trends. 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Bachelors degree from a four-year college or university in Computer Science or a closely related, development-oriented field.


Required Licensure, Certification, etc.:

  • Desired: ITIL, PMP, Microsoft Certifications or technical training

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of eight (8) years of Microsoft SQL Server database administration experience.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of SSIS, SSRS, and SSAS experience on large projects using an SDLC methodology.
  • Experience preparing business requirements and management policies and standard operating procedure (SOP) documentation.
  • Prior experience with implementing off-the-shelf software, preferred.

Knowledge: 

  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server database administration from architecture through operations.
  • Knowledge of data quality, data profiling and data cleansing techniques.
  • Strong understanding of transact-SQL, stored procedures, and user-defined functions.
  • Expertise in development, analysis, and usage of business and technical requirements towards the development of enterprise reporting solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of system integration capabilities and constraints.
  • Working knowledge of financial systems, Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains general ledger experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint platform preferred.
  • Knowledge of business systems (Great Plains, Workday, Unifocus, Concur or comparable applications) and others that serve as source systems within the Towne Park integrated BI environment.

Skills:

  • Demonstrate detail-oriented Microsoft SQL Server database administration operational support skills to ensure stability of all operational databases, the DBMS, and servers.
  • Design, implement, and support new robust scalable enterprise architecture with high availability and clustering.
  • Strong background in Microsoft SQL Server development with expert transact-SQL skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server with data architecture, data integration, queries and reports required, including SSRS and PowerBI.
  • Expert-level skills in ETL process and relevant tools (SSIS).
  • Ability to demonstrate the value of data and relationships as the basis for delivering actionable intelligence to the business.
  • Strong analytical skills and problem solving ability coupled with the desire to improve existing process, take initiative and solve problems.
  • Possess project management and leadership skills.
  • Ability to research information and analyze data to arrive at valid conclusions, recommendations, and plans of action.
  • Ability to effectively plan, set priorities, and manage many projects simultaneously while working under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex technology related documents.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively address all levels within the organization.
  • Excellent written skills, including experience writing comprehensive business and functional requirements, compose professional internal and external business communications including reports, memos, letters, and e-mails.
  • Ability to exercise considerable judgment and discretion in dealing with matters of significance for the company.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business policies, procedures, equipment manuals, training materials, and corporate communications.
  • Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to utilize MS Office suite and related applications.
  • Ability to represent the company effectively in a variety of settings with a demonstrated understanding and appreciation for diverse cultures.
