Cloud Specialist
Job description
Bright-River is in the middle of a Digital Transformation. We are doing two things to facilitate this transformation: 1) move our environments from being built by 3rd parties to building, owning and running it ourselves, and 2) moving from doing simple image editing work to automated image processing including 3D and visual content optimisation.
What is your Mission?
As Bright-River’s first Cloud Systems Engineer, your mission is to own and facilitate the Digital Transformation for the Business to a total Cloud way of thinking.
You will do this by increasing software delivery performance, automate test development environments, applying a DevOps thinking and culture daily, and appreciating the journey from on-premise to Cloud.
The status quo is not defendable everything is up for change and you are a thoughtful risk taker and likely also a bit creative. This is a very exciting time for Bright-River and for any Cloud Systems Engineer who wants to directly influence the innovation speed of a company.
You have great communication skills which will be used to help get buy-in from the Engineering teams and leadership team on some of the hard to talk about business transformation topics. You will help them understand the technology from a conceptual point of view and how it can be applied to the business to move us forward.
A few of the task you’d either own or contribute towards:
- Greenfield development of Microsoft Azure infrastructure (Storage, SQL, Batch Render, etc), e.g. looking at an existing service or data centre and then architecting and building a more effective solution in Azure.
- You will be responsible for working out a way to capture our critical business processing data to help the business scale. Essentially, working out what we need and when.
- DevOps mindset: Systems engineering work with well-known frameworks and monitoring solutions - as well as helping to break down barriers between siloed teams. Our aim is to automate everything.
- Applying and sharing Cloud best-practices to on-premise systems in Asia. Our aim is to work in an efficient Cloud environment as much as possible, but part of our business has an on-premise component. Feel free to ask us why.
- You will be doing some out of hours shift work as part of a team rotation.
Requirements
How to stand out from the rest?
- You’ve studied Engineering, Computer Science or a similar subject.
- You’re super motivated and have at least 4 years of working experience.
- Scripting skills - ideally Python or Powershell, but talk to us if you love to hack in any language. We look for people who automate everything where sensible.
- You’ll probably prefer a command line to a GUI.
- Solid knowledge of Windows and Linux.
- Administration/Engineering experience in Azure/AWS/GCP - Certificates not a must have but definitely show them if you have them.
- Knowledge of cloud environments either Azure / AWS.
- Solid .Net experience and understanding.
- In depth-knowledge of MSSQL database required.
- Any knowledge and skills you bring around security will a huge bonus.
What you’ll get in return?
- Plenty of room for development and learning on-the-job under excellent conditions and the choice of working 4 or 5 days a week.
- Being part of a structured and aligned team that’s working with the Scaling Up method.
- Joining a growing Business Technology team in a key role.
- The opportunity to be part of a fast-growing international scale-up with offices in 5 cities, across 4 countries and 3 continents.
- Joining a team of passionate, hard-working professionals that also know when and how to relax and have fun.
- Working in the city center of Haarlem, above the central station, with daily lunches, fresh fruit and drinks with your colleagues on Friday afternoons.
- Participate in the yearly international team event in a cool location where the new year is planned and the past year celebrated.
