This learning center works with the various Tech portfolios to help accelerate the software development transformation through their associates with an approach of learning by doing. These initiatives are taught and led by inspiring experienced software engineers and product managers who have first-hand exposure to the technologies and roles their students strive to obtain. We are seeking a product manager that is passionate about solving problems and creating value that can help grow the next generation of product leaders here at The Home Depot.

  • Teaches the delivery of incremental value by driving product changes and how to work closely with a team of developers, designers, and business partners
  • Teaches how to conduct in-depth business reviews, communicate and present at all levels of the organization, and support cross functional product teams
  • Teaches hypothesis driven development and user-centered design
  • Teaches how to provide feedback that is actionable, to any type of team member
  • Encourages students to have courage in their roles to be the next generation of transformers of the way we solve problems
  • Communicates real world concepts and tactical examples so that students can apply directly to their roles at Product Managers
  • Communicates the following Product Manager related topics easily to students: the product development cycle, conducting market analysis, user research, wireframing and storyboarding, financial modeling, product roadmaps, and creating product specifications

MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES50% – Strategy & Planning:Seeks to empathize with and understand the end user deeply and use that knowledge to determine the fastest path to deliver valueTranslates business goals and end user needs into product strategy; communicates direction and product priorities to the development team, other matrixed teams, and third-party partnersIdentifies goals, metrics and analytics to determine product value; continually makes recommendations and refinements to the product backlog based on learningsManages and grooms the product backlog; makes future decisions based on the value that will be deliveredPartners with Finance to understand financial needs and assist in the creation of business plans for new opportunitiesMonitors research as well as the competitive landscape to recommend the best solutions and ensure that products remain or become best in classEnsures that product directions balance both the user needs and business goals of driving sales, improving efficiency and enhancing customer satisfaction20% – Delivery & Execution:Formulates, tests and refines assumptions and hypotheses through user research and testingDocuments, reviews and ensures that all quality and change control standards are metCreates, prioritizes and accepts user stories; incorporate them into release planningMakes product decisions that drive value on a daily basisIdentifies and considers pros, cons, issues, obstacles, dependencies and value associated with features and enhancementsParticipates in standups, iteration planning sessions, product demo, and retrospectivesCondenses complex technical concepts into non-technical language for stakeholders30% – People:Fosters collaboration with team members (Engineering, UX, etc.) to drive value and identify and resolve impedimentsActs as a proponent of modern software development practicesAdvocates for the end user and stakeholder by becoming associated with the product, empathizing with and understanding user needsWorks with the product team to continuously assess progress, disseminate lessons learned, and understand next stepsManages cross functional team and stakeholder expectations to execute on product strategy and provides education to requestors to determine prioritization based on tangible benefits and/or user experienceGuides more junior team members in strategy, alignment, analysis and execution tasksParticipates in and contributes to learning activities around modern software design and development core practices (communities of practice)Participates in talent acquisition, development and retention activities in support of teamNATURE AND SCOPETypically reports to the Product Management Manager or Sr. Manager.ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTSEnvironment:Located in a comfortable indoor area.
