Arbor Networks Research and Development Office in Ann Arbor, MI is seeking a Senior Software Engineer with experience developing medium/large scale containerized applications to join its product development team. Our team uses Agile methodologies such as Scrum to design and build complex, robust software products. We hire highly motivated developers who work in small teams with other talented software developers and software quality assurance engineers in a high-energy environment.
As a member of our engineering team, you will be working with home-grown and third-party systems intended to take in high volumes of data efficiently and make it available to a variety of presentations for network and security customers. Through our Agile process, you will write code for the purpose of creating the classic big data ingestion and storage mechanisms, as well as extending the front-end product API that allows fast, clean access to that data. The speed and reliability of these systems makes possible many exploratory and automated network and security applications. Behind every compelling big data front end is a fast, stable system making it all possible. We have a strong culture of performing peer reviews of work, both with designs and code implementations, so collaboration skills are key.
- Proficient developing in C or Python in a Unix or Linux environment
- A driving sense of craftsmanship, quality and ownership
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision and to take on additional tasks as assigned
- Ability to work in small teams and cross-team to solve complex problems
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- 10 or more years of experience in software design, development, and implementation
- Experience with python and web frameworks in general
- Experience developing medium/large scale containerized applications, with interest in container orchestration mechanisms, service optimization in a container environment, and an understanding of container networking, both overlay and bare metal.
- Integrating distributed systems
- Writing unit tests and automated functional tests
- Maintaining Linux or other Unix-like systems
- Working in an Agile or Lean environment
- Demonstrated experience leading small teams
- Experience in a Unix-based LAMP environment
- Understanding of, or background using, high-speed networking devices such as firewalls, intrusion detection systems, intrusion prevention systems, or deep packet inspection (DPI) systems
