The Online Business Application Manager is responsible for the design, support, enhancement, and optimization work for Home Depots Data Sciences & Machine Learning platform. Leads the vision for the platform to scale machine learning into services for a wide range of Home Depot customer facing applications, including site product development, app experiences, and interconnected retail experience. Liaisons with IT engineers to improve Data Sciences algorithm-to-market speed by utilizing the cutting-edge Cloud based tech stack. Manages a team of developers to create human-in-the-loop validation applications to support deep learning and to improve algorithm performance. Delivers robust algorithm online a/b/n testing and real time continuous learning / optimization capabilities.
The successful business application manager will command a solid understanding of applied machine learning processes and methods. In addition, the business application manager needs an strong understanding of business and IT in order to ensure that the requirements provided by the business meet IT specifications.
Major Tasks, Responsibilities, and Key Accountabilities:
- 40% Responsible for managing a specific business application within the Data Sciences & Machine Learning data platform; serves as business liaison to architect solutions to issues and provide support services for the application that they own.
- 20% Serves as Project Manager for system enhancements and releases for specific application.
- 10% Responsible for QA and ensuring system changes are tested and functional prior to production release.
- 20% Leads change design efforts for all approved systems changes; conducts analysts on system change needs and provides recommendations to senior leadership.
- 10% Manage vendor and internal IT relationship
Nature and Scope:
- Position reports to Sr Manager, Data Science.
- Accountable for direct supervision of the work activities of others. Planning, monitoring and reviewing work of subordinates is required. This may include direct supervision of a shift or the coordination of multiple work groups. Makes recommendations concerning selection, termination, performance appraisal and professional development.
Environment:
- Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Travel:
- Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be eighteen years of age or older.
- Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.
Education Required:
- The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelors degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.
Years of Relevant Work Experience: 5 years
Physical Requirements:
- Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous Cloud data management or large enterprise data administration & architectural experience
- Prior Technical Project Management Experience.
- Prior Business Systems Support and QA experience.
- Mastery of data pipelines and cloud tech stack (especially the Google Cloud Platform) is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:
- Expertise in Google Cloud data environment
- Deep understanding of both structured and unstructured data, expertise in engineering the most effective data layer for real time applications
- Understanding of streaming technology and API
- Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively across functions.
- Ability to deal with occasional off-hours calls effectively and professionally.
