Python Django Software Engineer - Health Care AI at mPulse Mobile (Los Angeles, CA)

mPulse Mobile is looking for a Python Software Development Engineer that will join our internal Data Engineering team in Encino. This role is will be involved in a combination of new feature development, API enhancement, optimization, client integration support and product maintenance. In addition, this role will collaborate with our offshore development and QA partner to continue to deliver and support a high quality intelligent mobile messaging product.

The ideal candidate is a mid-level software engineer having worked with technologies used by mPulse, such as Python, Django, PostgreSQL, Github, and Docker. He or she should also have an interest in making the consumer healthcare experience better using communication technology. This is a hands-on role reporting to the Manager of Data Engineering.

Responsibilities and Duties

• 
  
• Efficiently deliver high-quality code using the Django Framework that meets requirements, including comprehensive Unit Tests and Integration Tests, and appropriate documentation.

• Optimize Database Queries using Django ORM tools and SQL.
• 
  
• Profile and Analyze code to identify deficiencies and implement performance improvements.
• 
  
• Participate in Peer Code Reviews.
• 
  
• Drive adoption of additional libraries and tools to improve our ability to deliver quality software efficiently.
• 
  
• Analyze and provide detailed defect reports, and support stakeholders in writing effective feature requests and defect reports.
• 
  
• Attend to Security concerns, including promptly reviewing and updating third-party dependences after security vulnerability reports, and reviewing internal code to ensure security best practices.

• Provide technical support to internal Engineering and QA staff.
• 
  
• Additional tasks related to Automation, Reporting, and Continuous Integration, as assigned by the Manager of Data Engineering.

Qualifications and Skills

• 
  
• At least three years of experience writing software for web applications, mostly using Django.
• 
  
• At least one year of experience writing SQL queries, preferably for PostgreSQL.
• 
  
• Familiarity with at least one Distributed Version Control System, preferably Git.
• 
  
• Ability to work independently, with periods of minimal supervision.
• 
  
• Ability to Develop effective solutions, in collaboration with non-technical stakeholders, even when requirements are ambiguous or incomplete. I.e., a bias toward action in the face of uncertainty, with the ability to present alternatives to stakeholders in the form on concrete demonstrations.
• 
  
• Strong collaboration and communication skills, including the ability to present and defend proposals for changes in procedures or solutions. Ability to train Junior Engineers is a big plus.
• 
  
• Desire to evaluate and implement new technologies as needed, to continually embrace the best tools that will help us deliver the best, most robust software possible.

• Desire to advance into future leadership positions.

• US Citizenship required.

• Nice to have: Basic front-end Javascript skills, especially with React.
