Senior Software Engineer (C, C++, Linux, embedded) at Rajant (Malvern, PA)

Founded in 2001, Rajant Corporation enables secure communications-on-the-move through a portable meshed wireless network that can rapidly reconfigure and adapt in real-time. Our BreadCrumb® Wireless solutions provide networks for military, mining, oil & gas, homeland security, first responders, telecommunications providers, and public safety professionals, providing voice and data communications across a meshed, self-healing network. Rajant’s BreadCrumb network nodes communicate with IP based client devices such as laptops, PDAs, video cameras, satellite terminals, networked radios, RFIDs and sensor devices.

We continuously update the technology within our InstaMesh® protocol, BreadCrumb® wireless mesh devices, and BC|Commander® and BC|Enterprise® network management and monitoring applications. We are looking to expand our amazing engineering team in multiple areas to keep advancing our products and enable new capabilities. Positions will initially be in Downingtown, PA with an expected move in Spring 2018 to new office space being built in Great Valley, PA.

Rajant is seeking Senior Software Engineers to help us continue to enhance our industry-leading wireless mesh network product line. Multiple open positions are available as we embark upon a major product update.

The teams we are growing include:

  • InstaMesh(TM) Protocol (our proprietary layer 2 meshing protocol core to all of our products)

  • Firmware (our core embedded Linux-based firmware and applications maintained for multiple platforms)

  • Radio Support (updating and maintaining Linux radio drivers, researching and evaluating radio modules, supporting international regulatory approval processes)

  • Manufacturing and Testing (our software systems used to fully exercise and validate new units coming off the production line and to program and license them prior to shipping to customer)

Changing teams over time is encouraged to ensure constant learning opportunities and the ability to contribute in multiple areas.

Responsibilities include:

  • Define and refine product requirements

  • Come up with ideas for projects we haven't thought of, and see them through

  • Constantly improve our internal development and testing processes

Requirements:

  • Expertise in developing/debugging Linux kernel and userspace code

  • Extensive experience programming in C and/or C++

  • Extensive knowledge of the Linux networking stack, TCP/IP, and Ethernet

  • Expertise in Linux shell scripting

  • Experience with wireless networking (802.11a/b/g/n/ac)

  • A solid understanding of proper use of cryptography

  • Ability to view things from the end user's perspective

  • Curiosity, enthusiasm, and interest in learning new things

  • Great communication and troubleshooting skills

  • Unique perspectives and experiences that we lack

  • A desire to solve hard problems, write great code, and prove it with brutal tests

We value experience just as highly as formal education. Experience equivalent to a degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering is required.

Limited travel may be required.

Benefits include:

  • A team of highly experienced colleagues working on small, autonomous teams

  • Casual office environment

  • Schedule flexibility and occasional telecommuting (situational, project-dependent)

  • Company-provided sodas, snacks, coffee, etc.

  • Health/dental/vision

  • On-site yoga classes

  • A defined bonus plan, 401(k), and stock warrant opportunities

And with our new office in the Spring:

  • Private offices for all engineering staff

  • On-site gym and shower

  • Easy access to Chester Valley Trail
