As a Backend Engineer at Hivemapper, you will enhance and scale our distributed map processing infrastructure and map application. Our system ingests terabytes of videos, orchestrates the data processing to build the map, and serves up the map to clients. This entire process needs to be quick and efficient to deliver the map as fast as possible for the lowest cost. We welcome both standard and senior Backend Engineers to this role.
Critical technologies we use are:
- Custom data processing system written in C++.
- Mesos for cluster management and optimal resource allocation.
- Node.js for the sophisticated map application API.
- MongoDB for complex map metadata.
In this role you will help design, architect, and implement all backend aspects of the system. This will involve working closely with other team members who specialize in the map generation steps and client applications. When required you will also assist in resolving customer issues; customer happiness is critical to us.
Required Skills:
- Minimum 2-4 years of experience in backend engineering for the standard to senior levels
- Experience programming in C++.
- Experience with Node.js, or experience with Python but eager to learn Node.js.
- Experience with Linux multi-core, multi-process, and multi-thread system programming.
- Experience configuring and deploying Amazon Web Services.
- Experience writing database schema design, queries, and optimization.
- Approachable personality and eagerness to help team members.
Bonus Skills:
- Experience with C++ build systems such as Bazel.
- Experience with cluster resource management systems such as Mesos.
- Experience with MongoDB.
- Experience with Red Hat based Linux distributions.
