Berkeley Lab’s Information Technology Division (http://bit.ly/2EQ0p1z) has an opening for an Application Administrator  responsible for providing support to the following services: Atlassian Confluence, Mail gateways, Google G Suite infrastructure, Sympa mailing list server, Indico conference and event management, and AODocs.   The Collaboration Services group in the User Support Department is responsible for a variety of web based tools including Google’s core business applications (mail, calendar, drive, sites, groups), Confluence, email gateways (Ironport), load balancing (BigIP), list services (Google Groups, Sympa), and Identity Management.



Specific Responsibilities:


• Provide Tier II support of Google product issues, participate in process improvement initiatives, and support outreach efforts.


• Provide system administration support for email security appliances and related applications.


• Assisting in the management of email aliases, forwards, auto replies and support all mail-based Google G Suite Apps (Gmail, Google Groups, etc.).


• Support all G Suite Apps and manage the lbl.gov domain using the G Suite Admin console.


• Support all third-party Google Marketplace apps such as Spanning Backup, Lucidchart, AODocs, etc.


• Serve as systems administrator and support for the following CentOS application servers:


   - Sympa (mailing list)


   - Atlassian Confluence (team collaboration and documentation)


   - CERN Indico (conference and event management)


• Work closely with supervisors and peers in identifying solutions and defining project pipelines.


• Present Collaboration Services group projects and supported products to Lab users at various events such as LabTech.


• Support projects to gather requirements for department-wide projects to assist scientific and operations divisions.


• Consult with software vendors to gather requirements for various Lab groups, implement solutions and support those solutions through training.


• Interface closely with the Cyber Security Group to align Collaboration Services efforts to Cyber Security best practices and policies.


• Manage LBNL and NERSC email traffic filtering using Cisco Ironport email security appliances in collaboration with the Cybersecurity group.


• Collaborate with Cybersecurity on the implementation of new email policies, blocking and searching SMTP-based cyber threats and evaluating new email security appliances.


• Responsible for creation and maintenance of documentation related to services identified in responsibilities.


• Provide training for the applications and services identified in responsibilities.



Additional Responsibilities as needed:


• Web application development.



Required Qualifications: 


• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience/training.


• A minimum of 4 years of experience in system administration in a Windows, Linux Server, or similar environment.


• Experience translating user provided requirements into effective, efficient solutions.


• Experience performing user needs assessments and designing user interfaces.


• Experience with current Windows Operating System, SQLServer, LDAP integration.


• Experience with Scripting languages (e.g. powershell, perl).


• Software Development experience with Python or Perl.


• Knowledge of virtual computing environments.


• Knowledge and experience in cyber security protection and monitoring of central servers.


• Understanding of messaging systems (e.g. MS exchange, sendmail, IronPort devices).


• Strong interpersonal skills for working in a diverse team environment.


• Able to work on projects of medium to large scope under general instructions.



Additional Desired Qualifications:


• Experience with the types of work done at a National Research laboratory.

Notes:


• This is a full time, 6 months, Term appointment with the possibility of extension or conversion to Career appointment based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs.


• Full-time, M-F, non-exempt (hourly paid) from overtime pay.


• Salary is commensurate with experience.
