Engineer Lead for Markets at Zalando SE (Berlin, Germany)

THE OPPORTUNITY

You work for the Engineering team in Zalando’s Markets organization, which enables data driven business strategies for 15+ countries. We integrate data sources from all of Zalando and enrich them via ETL and Data Science. We create interfaces and reports for self service. We act as bridge builders between  our commercial colleagues and other tech teams.

YOU ARE SETTING STANDARDS

• 
  
• Mentor a team of seven engineers and analysts including big data engineering, frontend development, ad-hoc consulting an report development.
• 
  
• Establish best practices for our team owned evolving technology stack incl. AWS, Python, Exasol, MicroStrategy.
• 
  
• Discover new business use cases and data sources. Access more than 1000 data sources from Zalando’s Data Lake. Process them for business critical applications such as customer lifetime prediction.
• 
  
• Collaborate with commercial stakeholders and tech teams to understand business requirements and be an early adopter of technology inside Markets
• 
  
• Contribute as a big data engineer in projects incl. scripting in SQL and Python, job scheduling and dev ops.

YOU ARE SKILLED

• 
  
• You have a university degree in Computer Science or a comparable subject, with an academic record of high achievement.
• 
  
• You have 5+ years hands-on experience in real world data engineering using SQL, ETL and Python. Knowledge in AWS, Microservices, Kettle, Data Science, or Apache Spark is a plus.
• 
  
• Other engineers turn to you on advice on big data technology. They trust you taking the lead role on technology decisions. You have been mentoring colleagues.
• 
  
• You are passionate about both technology and people development. You learn fast, challenge our status quo and drive innovation. You have potential for future disciplinary leadership.
• 
  
• Your English is fluent and you are a strong communicator both with tech and commercial stakeholders. German language skills not required.
