Overall purpose of role
- Supports the Capacity Planners to assess, design and develop monitoring solutions appropriate for the various system components and applications needed to measure and analyse key performance metrics utilising existing tools.
- Undertakes a full health check of the Application/Service using data captured from the monitoring tools, or in any recorded capacity-related incidents. Analysis will consider both performance and capacity to determine the reasons for any issues.
- Seeks to improve the capacity and performance of the Applications/Services.
Key Accountabilities
- The Capacity Performance Analyst takes hands-on responsibility for the analysis of capacity management for the IT Services in an operational state.
- Supports the analysis of capacity usage and demand requirements activity for new services as part of service introduction.
- Responsible for providing key component performance parameters and metrics within their assigned area of expertise for the accountable IT Services.
- Using their expertise provides recommendations to the Capacity Manager and Business unit to improve performance and thereby removing any system constraints.
The Capacity Performance Analyst is responsible for:
- Utilisation across all customers for standard services to detect performance trends.
- Evaluates complex infrastructure design as result of performance concerns and recommends changes.
- Reviews performance data, proactively identifies potential performance bottlenecks and makes recommendations in the form of Requests for Change or solution requests for eliminating those bottlenecks.
- Computing tuning (CPU, disc, network etc) and monitors implemented tuning adjustments.
- Performance diagnostics across complex infrastructure to identify component failure.
- Participates in multi-platform performance testing.
- Configures performance thresholds to be monitored in agreement with the Business unit.
- Ensures performance management procedures are in place prior to service activation.
Essential Skills/Basic Qualifications:
- Excellent knowledge of Capacity Management of monitoring/analysis/test tools reporting results and presenting recommendations.
- Proven capability of capacity and demand management including demonstrable process improvement/utilisation in an ITIL environment.
- Experience with large scale, complex architectural environments with a detailed understanding of software and architectural performance factors.
- Excellent written communications skills with a highly inquisitive nature.
Desirable skills/Preferred Qualifications:
- Degree level in Computing, Business Management or equivalent
- ITIL v.3 Foundation
- Knowledge of project management disciplines would be useful.
