POSITION OVERVIEW 


A rapidly expanding, entrepreneurial technology company, Alarm.com, is seeking an ambitious, talented, Embedded Linux Software Engineer with a B.A., B.S. or M.S. Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a similar engineering program. Very few small companies innovate and develop across such a broad range of technologies as Alarm.com.  The Embedded Linux Software Engineer position is ideal for candidates who want to work with technologies such as wide area cell networks (CDMA, 3G-HSPA, 4G-LTE), local mesh networks (ZWave, Zigbee…), smart sensors, and IoT devices, for home automation and security applications in an embedded Linux environment.


RESPONSIBILITIES 
The Embedded Linux Software Engineer’s primary job responsibilities will include:



  • Developing, testing and debugging embedded software in a Linux environment.

  • Working with external partners to securely interface their embedded software with the Alarm.com embedded software

  • Coordinating with other departments, such as Quality Engineering, Software Engineering and Product Management to ensure on-time delivery of a fully tested and compatible device that meets customer satisfaction.


REQUIREMENTS



  • 3-5 years of Linux experience

  • S. Computer Engineering or Computer Science, MS is a plus (Liberal arts academic experience or interests is also a plus)

  • Academic or commercial experience in development within an embedded Linux environment is required.

  • Familiarity with networking (cellular, WIFI, ethernet, Z-Wave, Zigbee).

  • Self-starter, analytical, tenacious problem solver

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Rigorous attention to detail with focus on robustness, scalability and quality of products

  • Passion for working with technology and excitement for creating high quality consumer technology products


NICE-TO-HAVES



  • Experience with microcontrollers and sensing devices or Android experience is a plus.

  • Experience with penetration testing and ethical hacking is a plus. 

  • Experience with Linux kernel development is a plus.
