Job Summary
Acts as the Districts expert on website construction, design and functionality. Assists in establishing policies, procedures and standards for technical functionality and accessibility guidelines on all District websites. Assists in the creation and maintenance of interactive web applications where data is collected and written to a web-enabled database. Performs consistent updates to the Content Management System (CMS) and plugins, and provides web publishing training to District staff. Remains in close contact with the Office of Communications and ensures that the public image of the School District is consistent.
Essential Functions
- Maintains, develops and customizes the current and new WordPress templates.
- Monitors the website for accessibility compliance.
- Troubleshoots and resolves operational problems; assures web services are always available and adequate and that web-based information is archived; assures sensitive or classified information is not inadvertently released.
- Serves as a technical resource to faculty and staff in planning and implementing new website/web pages.
- Assists in the integration of District portal with other District web offerings.
- Provides training on the Districts CMS.
- Coordinates and performs evening or weekend CMS and plugin updates.
- Maintains online documentation for technical standards.
- Reads and responds to Webmaster emails and escalates as required.
- Attends scheduled status and client meetings.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university.
- Two years of full-time, paid computer-related experience which have included website design using WordPress and development utilizing style sheets, PHP and HTML programming languages.
OR
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Four years of full-time, paid experience in computer programming and analysis, which has included website design using WordPress and development utilizing style sheets, CSS, PHP, and HTML programming languages.
OR
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience determined to be acceptable by the Office of Talent and Information Technology.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Demonstrated knowledge of:
- one or more operating systems, preferably Windows and OS X.
- popular web browsers such as Chrome, Mozilla, Safari, and Internet Explorer.
- PHP and/or Perl programming language and its related technologies.
- graphics design as it applies to website development.
- PhotoShop and Illustrator.
- dynamic HTML, including style sheets, templates, complex layouts, and interactive design.
- creating database structures in development and test environments.
Demonstrated ability to:
- install, configure, maintain, tune, analyze and optimize websites in WordPress.
- address HTML and scripting compatibility issues between different browsers and computing platforms.
- implement and manage security, privacy and authentication issues in a web-based environment.
- understand and support a common coding methodology and understand object-oriented programming.
- plan and prioritize work, maintain schedules and meet deadlines.
- speak in front of mid to large size groups.
- communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- establish and maintain effective working relationships.
