Software Engineering Manager
A rapidly growing startup in the Downtown area with an income-building platform is looking for a Software Engineering Manager to play a major role in the product and engineering evolution. You will need to be a hands-on player/coach who can grow, mentor, and lead high-caliber engineers in a collaborative, team-focused culture. You will work closely with product managers, business stakeholders, and your team to help define, implement, and ship significant increments to the product offering.
Responsibilities:
- Hire, manage, mentor, and foster the growth of product-focused, results-oriented engineers
- Work with Product, Engineering, UX, Design, and other business stakeholders to help define features and projects
- Set expectations for development timelines and delivery of projects
- Ensure the delivery of high-quality, well-tested technical solutions
- Lead from the front - be hands-on, dive in, and write code across multiple stacks with the team
- Help define, implement, and reinforce development best practices and processes
- Contribute to technical vision
- Embody the principles of servant leadership
Required Skills:
- Significant software development experience (5+ years preferred)
- 2-4 years of hands-on people management experience
- Demonstrated ability to hire, mentor, and grow engineering talent
- Experience with API development and microservice architectures in stacks such as C#/.Net, Java, Node.js, or equivalent.
- Experience with Web development and Javascript frameworks like Angular, React.js, JQuery, and Node.js
- Working knowledge of relational databases like MySQL, as well as NoSQL solutions
- Experience working in the AWS ecosystem
- Deep understanding of agile development principles and practices
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
- A passion for building great teams and great software
- Strong written and verbal communication skills - ability to work well in teams of all sizes with representatives from a diverse set of technical backgrounds
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
Preferred Skills:
- Consumer product experience
- Experience with containerization technologies like docker
- Experience with indexing and search technologies like elasticsearch, SOLR, etc.
