The senior hardware design engineer is responsible for designing and managing the fabrication and production of printed circuit board (PCB) hardware to support internal silicon validation/characterization efforts, system tools, and application boards. This includes designing the board hardware schematics and PCB layout, creating fabrication files and drawings, and managing the assembly, production, and test of the system.
The candidate will also use their technical expertise to assist with hardware system architecture. The candidate will also participate in other aspects of board level silicon hardware development.
Responsibilities
- Assist with board hardware system architecture. Define and document board hardware requirements
- Specify and evaluate system components to meet design targets and objectives
- Design, manufacture, and bring-up of board hardware used for silicon validation, device characterization, and ultra-low power application boards, reference designs, and tools
- Schematic design and simulation using Cadence Orcad schematic capture tools
- Create bill-of-materials and manage component database content and synchronization
- Component PCB footprint creation and PCB layout design using Cadence Orcad or Allegro PCB layout tools
- Create PCB fabrication files and drawings and review for cost and manufacturability
- Review board designs and technical specifications with the silicon design, validation, and applications engineering teams
- Manage the fabrication, assembly, and test of the board hardware
- Create hardware system test plans
- Manage the bring-up and debug of the board hardware system
- Create and manage content/structure of hardware system users manuals
Qualifications
- BS in EE or related discipline with at least 5+ years of experience designing board hardware to support silicon validation, evaluation/demonstration systems, end product, and/or related hardware development
- Experience designing custom silicon validation board hardware
- Experience working with MCUs that have a high level of both analog and digital integration
- Knowledge of analog board hardware design and ultra-low power measurement techniques
- Experience working hands-on in the lab with digital and analog electrical test equipment
- Experience using Cadence Orcad schematic capture and Cadence Orcad/Allegro PCB layout tools to design multilayer PCBs
- Experience using PSPICE and Allegro PCB simulation tools a plus
- In depth understanding of PCB fabrication and layout requirements to meet design goals and manufacturability
- Able to debug and solve board hardware issues related to HW/SW dependencies, analog and digital hardware interactions, power management, ESD, and radiated emissions
