Under the direction of the ADSM, the SCCM Desktop Administrator is responsible for Metropolitan Transit System's (MTS) desktop technologies. This position creates and maintains SCCM packages, collections, reports and inventory of software packages used in the creation of standard desktop and laptop installations. What is the SCCM Desktop Administrator responsible for?


Essential Functions

  • Works as a part of a distributed team to install, configure and maintain desktops and laptops in a 24x7 environment using SCCM for Windows.
  • Provides all facets of desktop/laptop hardware, operating system (OS) and software administration as well as design and upgrades as needed.
  • Creates, updates, deploys and troubleshoots images for laptops and desktops.
  • Designs patching processes and performs OS patch deployments.
  • Performs application packaging, deployment, updates and lifecycle management.
  • Maintains currency with desktop and laptop hardware standards and make recommendations.
  • Protects end users from malware with Endpoint Protection tools.
  • Deploys and maintains Windows/Desktop Analytics.
  • Formulates, manages and executes infrastructure projects to meet business needs.
  • Assists Service Desk with research, resolutions and support as needed for advanced cases.
  • Evaluates current systems and processes and recommends improvements.
  • Researches and recommends new methods for enhancing performance, reliability, optimization, tuning and overall user experience.
  • Acts as a Subject Matter Expert in support of Service Desk for desktop-related issues.
  • Documents support-related processes and procedures and publishes in Track-It! Solutions.
  • Maintains Service Level Agreements on work orders in the Track-It! work management system and ensures response times meet these commitments.
  • Document interactions in the Track-It! work management system and maintains its currency.
  • Provides courteous and professional communication at all times.
  • Ensures IT support standards are followed during every interaction.
  • Participates in On-Call Rotation.
  • Works within the Agency to promote excellent customer service, fast response times and efficient and timely first, second and third tier support.
  • Provides expert insight on general support issues.
  • Enforces quality of service guidelines for dealing with customers, completing services and overall customer satisfaction.
  • Provides training on new hardware, software applications, operational procedures and troubleshooting techniques as requested.
  • Analyzes data, identifies trends and devises preventative solutions. Offers suggestions for process improvements and implements them.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned.


What we are looking for in a candidate:


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of or ability to learn MTS policies and regulations; ability to read, understand and apply MTS policies, regulations and union labor contracts; ability to write letters, memoranda and reports using clear, concise and grammatically correct English; ability to speak clearly, distinctly and effectively in person-to-person or small group situations using tact and diplomacy; ability to coordinate and initiate actions necessary to implement decisions and delegate responsibilities to appropriate personnel; ability to establish and maintain priorities in order to complete assignments on time without detailed instructions; knowledge of the use of Enterprise Business software to accomplish given tasks; knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn and use other software that MTS might have or acquire.


Physical Requirements

  • The successful candidate must be able to fulfill the physical demands of the job such as walking, stooping, sitting, bending, reaching for overhead files and occasional lifting (must be able to lift up to 50 pounds). Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and perform tasks involving manual dexterity, such as use of a computer and 10-key. Work will at times require more than 8 hours per day or an irregular work week to perform the essential duties of the position. Duties will be performed primarily in an office type environment and may require travel to external locations and agencies.


Experience/Education/Certificates/License(s)

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or related field is preferred; Microsoft Certified Professional Certification (MCP) - Administering System Center 2012 Configuration Manager is preferred and A+, N+ Certification is desirable.
  • Proficient in the use and support of Active Directory, PC deployment, VPN, TCP/IP, Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office applications through current releases.
  • Proficient in deploying desktop/laptop OS and application updates, Active Directory, Group Policy Objects, across multiple Windows Operating Systems and versions of Microsoft Office using SCCM.
  • Minimum of three (3) years as a SCCM Desktop Administration. Prefer one (1) year of experience managing or leading SCCM Desktop Administration or similar technical support function.
  • Experience working within a government agency or environment is preferred.
  • A combination of education and experience meeting the required knowledge and abilities would be considered.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid California driver's license.


General Information:

Must satisfactorily pass all applicable examinations including, but not limited to, a pre-employment physical, drug screen and background check.
