Why become Noggin's Director of Engineering?
Noggin is a fast-paced, yet mature and growing SaaS company. We’re going through late stage growth with key growth milestones under our belt, and the imminent launch of our next generation platform. As part of our growth and evolution, we’re looking for a Director of Engineering (Software) to come on board and to lead, grow and develop our engineering practise further. This role reports directly to the CTO and will be fundamental to our next stage of growth as a company.
This is an amazing opportunity to join us at just the right time to step into an engineering practise that performs well and to take it from good to great. As the engineering director, you’ll be core to the evolution of our team structure & processes and to building an even stronger devops culture within the team. We have a very simple, but winning formula. We look for smart, driven people who want to be the best at their game. You’re curious, you’re independent and you want to lead and inspire a team that’s focused on excelling, pushing our tech stack as far as it can go and delivering a really exceptional product.
What does it take to be a Noggin?
As the engineering director, you’ve come from a strong software engineering background yourself and you’ve made a conscious move into technical leadership. You’re particularly strong in engineering web application systems architecture, especially complex and scalable SaaS solutions. You’re keen to stay ‘on the tools’ to keep your skills sharp but you deliver so much more value than just writing code. You’re a leader, a strategic thinker, a doer and a business improver.
Having a degree in Engineering, Computer Science or similar would definitely be valuable, as would a significant record of success in delivering complex, quality enterprise software solutions – ideally using a combination of the following PHP/ Angular 5-7 / JavaScript / My SQL / No SQL / Docker / Git / AWS. Of course, you’ll also need to be adept at communicating technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and relationship building overall.
What does success look like in this role?
This is a newly created opportunity reporting directly to the CTO and working closely with senior leaders across the business. Within your first three months you’ll have become fully conversant with our product strategy, tech stack and systems architecture, and your team – plus you’ll have some valuable insights on how to continue to evolve and scale this.
6 Months in you’ll have really hit your stride in delivering a clear strategy for your team and Noggin’s system architecture as a whole. You’ll have established a strong relationship with your team and you’re proactively leading and mentoring them. In addition to this, you have worked closely with the Director of Product to ensure that we execute our product road-map on time, with minimal defects and little to no technical debt.
After 12 months, you’ll have started to bring in additional layers of leadership in the form of engineering team leads. You’ll have a fully engaged and high performing team of engineers who are poised to continue build a game-changing, impactful SaaS solution. And you’ve introduced numerous business improvements to ensure that engineering continues to deliver exceptional SaaS solutions that delight our customers.
