Bell has multiple openings for Flight Controls Systems Engineers to support the development of Conventional and Fly-By-Wire Helicopters and Tiltrotor aircraft, both manned and un-manned, as well as new and novel products and platforms, such as autonomous Urban Air Taxi and Product transportation/delivery systems.
The systems requirements associated with these products are challenging and exciting. Our existing aircraft systems and emerging concept vehicles provide opportunities for systems engineering, simulation and test of configurations and technologies that will shape the future of aviation. This position will be part of a diverse team of engineers capable of executing in a challenging and fast-paced environment.
These positions may be located at Bell Helicopters headquarters facility in Ft. Worth, TX or the Bell Flight Research Center in Arlington, TX.
The Flight Control Systems Engineer will be responsible for:
- Design and test of Flight Control Systems (FCS) with embedded DO-178 software and DO-254 complex hardware, including Fly-By-Wire Flight Control Systems
- System and software design, requirements management, systems specifications, interface management, system safety assessment, verification and validation testing in desktop simulation environment and systems integration labs, aircraft flight test, and aircraft/system qualification and certification
- Development of systems architecture, redundancy management, electronic hardware design and integration, and actuator design and integration
- Development of air vehicle flight control laws, flight director, navigation, guidance, and autonomous systems control algorithms control systems such as navigation, visual odometry, obstacle avoidance, object identification and comparable control behaviors
Qualifications
Education Requirements:
- Bachelors Degree is required.
- Major in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Computer Engineering is preferred.
- Bachelors Degree in other engineering disciplines will be considered with sufficient system development experience.
- Masters Degree in the Engineering disciplines mentioned above is preferred.
Position Requirements to be considered:
- At least 2 years experience is required.
- Experience with Model based systems engineering
- Familiarity with RTCA DO-160, MIL-STD-810, RTCA DO-178, RTCA DO-254, SAE ARP4754A, SAE ARP4761, 14 CFR Part 27 and Part 29 for commercial and military qualification and certification of aircraft systems,and multiple data protocols
- Experience with creation of system specifications, requirements traceability, and verification.
- Creation of system architecture and wiring schematics.
- Generation of System Safety Assessments, Failure Hazard Analysis, and Certification and Test plans.
- Familiarity with avionic systems, electrical power, mechanical controls, hydraulic systems and actuation, and flight test
- Experience with flight control system development and testing in a systems integration lab
- Experience with aircraft installation, functional testing, and troubleshooting
