DevOps Manager/ Software Engineering Manager

Job Overview:

Spirent Communications  is looking for a Software Engineering Manager who is motivated, driven, and excited at a chance to transform an operations ecosystem. We need someone who truly understands the Engineering DevOps space, is not afraid to get their hands dirty, and can lay the groundwork for a team that provides production support for Spirent's web applications and private CI/CD infrastructure. Our SaaS strategy requires all products to be continuously delivered. 

Can be based out of Raleigh, NC or Calabasas, CA. Must be able to travel to Calabasas and spend time with local team.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Instill a

    culture of Automation, Lean, Measurement, and Sharing throughout the team and broadly in the organization.

    • Shorten the systems development life cycle while delivering features, fixes, and updates frequently.
    • Provide continuous improved efficiencies to all phases of Engineering - Ideation and Prototyping, Development, Testing, Release, Support.

    • Enable engineers to use compute, network, and storage on-demand.

    • Establish Builds for scale, variability, and speed.

    • Support in-place Automated Acceptance Tests (AATs) for all products.

    • Set up Artifact management with clear structure and operational semantics

    • Ensure" observability" in test cycles. i.e. full-time metrics gathering, log aggregation, and distributed tracing.

    • Set up lab equipment sharing policies, procedures, and tools to drive down operational and capital expenses.

    • Coach and Guide a team of engineers.


    Job Requirements: 

    • Experience delivering solutions using Agile / Scrum Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) Processes.
    • A strong understanding of User Centered Design (UCD).
    • Experience working with UX Design teams through the UCD process.
    • Demonstrated domain experience in layer 4-7 protocols.
    • Demonstrated domain experience in network security.
    • Ability to learn new technologies related to network security and the expanding enterprise needs to address today's and tomorrow's threats.
    • A technical background prior going into the product world role is a big plus.
    • Comfortable making presentations to executives (both internal and external executives).
    • Comfortable leading technical meetings, both internal & client facing.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Strong interpersonal skills demonstrated ability to build trust and strong relationships.
    • Strong conceptual, analytical and strategic thinking skills.
    • Experience working in a highly collaborative and dynamic team environment.
    • SaaS service experience or enterprise solutions experience desired.
    • Big Data experience a big plus.
    • PO/PM certifications are a plus but not required.


    Education

    BS Co
    • mputer Science, Computer Engineering, or comparable on-the-job experience.
    • Demonstrable experience delivering Software Development projects.

    • 2 or more years as a manager or other leadership roles of a software team with product. build and deployment focus.
    • 3 or more years of public-cloud operations.
    • 7 or more years in hands-on roles supporting web infrastructure in a Linux/Unix environment.
    • Hands-on experience with some of the following projects and tools: HAProxy, Nginx, Salt, Docker, Packer, ELK, Graphite, Zabbix, Prometheus, Python, Golang, Kubernetes, OpenStack, VMware, Airship, Docker, Launch Darkly, Chatbots
    • Software Engineering principles.
    • Test Driven Development.
    • AWS orchestration and services, such as RDS (Postgres), DynamoDB, SQS, Kinesis.
    • Strong data analytics.
    • Ability to make data-driven decisions.
