Senior Site Reliability & Performance Engineer at Petco (San Diego, CA)

Essential Job Functions: The incumbent must be able to perform all of the following duties and responsibilities with or without a reasonable accommodation.

• Perform basic to moderate level day-to-day maintenance and up-keep of assigned domain.

• Schedule implementation and upgrades while maintaining them in accordance with IT policies and procedures

• Undertake enhancements or projects of varying sizes

• Be familiar with and help maintain documentation including configuration standards and infrastructure architecture

• Assist in identifying and recommending new processes or amendments to current ones to improve team functionality and service provision to customers

• Monitor and test system performance for potential bottlenecks, help identify possible solutions and assist with implementation.

• Plan and perform upgrade and installation activities for supported devices and platforms as well as scheduled system maintenance activities, and maintain them in accordance with IT policies and procedures

• Work with automated monitoring solutions to ensure maximum system uptime, performance and ensure our systems are right-sized for current and future needs.

• Develop and maintain documentation including configuration standards and infrastructure architecture for assigned domain.

• Define in-depth Scope of Work for enhancements or projects.

• Ensure configurations and data backup of services and implement recovery from disaster for assigned domain.

• Participate in the design and implementation of new solutions and improving resilience of the current environment.

• High level of competence in a programming language (Python, Node.js, Ruby, C#, etc)

• Understanding of modern web technologies (SPAs, HTTP Requests, JSON)

• Knowledge of website and platform optimization techniques

• Experience with monitoring tools, such as New Relic, Sumo Logic, Solar Winds

• Experience using issue tracking tools like JIRA

Supervisory Responsibility:

No supervisory responsibilities

Work Environment:

Typically will be in an office setting seated, in artificial light and working for prolonged periods of time on the computer. Some travel may be required.

Education and Experience:

Typically requires a Bachelors degree plus 3-5 or more years professional progressively responsible experience in function or 2-3 years experience in a highly specialized function.
