As a Principal Engineer in Berlin, you will enable multiple engineering teams to design and operate systems that are highly mission-critical for Zalando’s business. The Fulfillment Core unit at Zalando optimizes fulfillment planning, provides delivery time predictions and manages the global inventory and its availability to customers. You will ensure that our architecture to deliver these functions is scalable, reliable, easy to maintain and extend.
WHERE YOUR EXPERTISE IS NEEDED
- Guide multiple engineering teams in designing systems that are scalable, reliable as well as easy to maintain, operate and extend
- Introduce solution concepts and contribute to development for our most difficult technical challenges
- Mentor engineers to help them achieve mastery in systems design and drive sharing of technical knowledge within the broader Zalando tech community
- Improve operational excellence by investigating incidents, performing rigorous post-mortems and driving technical improvements based on results
- Facilitate and review technical decisions based on business needs, the overall tech strategy as well as own architecture documentation
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- Extensive experience as a senior software engineer and/or software architect, having worked in a defining role on large scale projects
- You have designed distributed systems that are highly scalable and reliable, using micro-services and event-driven architectures using excellent knowledge of relevant technologies like AWS, Docker / Kubernetes, Kafka, redis, Postgres
- Excellent communication skills in English with a proven ability to document complex architectures and solution concepts in a concise and comprehensive way
- An academic degree in computer science, engineering, technology or related fields
