Job Description
The SQL Database Administrator’s role is to ensure the stability, integrity, security, and efficient operation of Higher Logic’s databases. Duties include monitoring, maintaining, provisioning, and the remediation of production issues within these database environments. The Database Administrator will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve issues in order to maximize the benefit of Higher Logic’s database environments for our SaaS portfolio of products.
This role will be part of a team of skilled and dedicated individuals that support Higher Logic’s highly available, multi-tier SaaS solutions in Production on a 24 x 7 basis and their respective Development and Quality Assurance environments.
Responsibilities:
- Day-to-day administration of the Microsoft SQL Server Enterprise Database clusters & nodes.
- Configure and maintain database servers and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance so to ensure high levels of performance, availability and security.
- Maintain database performance by developing tuning methodologies.
- Maintain data integrity by establishing standards, monitoring and performance.
- Evaluate and recommend infrastructure improvements.
- Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes.
- Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities.
- Apply data modeling techniques to ensure development and implementation support efforts meet integration and performance expectations.
- Writes, maintains and supports a variety of reports & queries utilizing Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services for executive team and clients as appropriate.
- Ensure issue resolutions are communicated and expectations met in a timely and effective manner.
- Perform complex tasks with regards to the development of processes, procedures, automation tool implementation and deployment of tools within the various database environments.
- Provide 24x7 support for critical production systems.
Qualifications
- BA/BS Degree or equivalent experience.
- 4+ years MS SQL Server Enterprise Administration experience.
- Experience with database replication, backups, restores and recovery models.
- Demonstrated proficiency in administrating SQL server database systems in a High Availability production environment.
- Experience running query analysis, performance tuning and maintenance routines.
- Experience with creating and maintaining stored procedures.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Availability to work on-call schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as necessary.
- Familiarity with PostgreSQL, MongoDB and/or DB2 preferable.
- MCTS, MCITP, and/or MVP certifications a plus.
