Senior AR/VR Unity Developer for a Specialized Digital Healthcare Agency at Viscira (San Francisco, CA)

At Viscira, we value creativity and attention to detail, and we’re looking for a talented and creative AR/VR Developer. Our goal is to create innovative, engaging 3D AR/VR experiences used for educating health care professionals.  We have deep experience in cinematic 3D animation and are expanding into interactive 3D using the latest AR/VR platforms. XR is rapidly becoming a preferred medium to educate the public and industry professionals in the medical field. Viscira is on the edge of the new transition, and is well situated within the field to make it happen. We have onboard medical staff, UX designers with scientific background, an award-winning animation team in order to accommodate this exponential demand, as we are looking to grow our XR team. Our ideal candidate is an inquisitive sovereign individual who can write clean scalable code, who understands the fundamentals of real-time engines, and who is really excited to work with emerging tech in the medical field.


 Job Responsibilities:


First and foremost, we’re looking for a wizard to work with our animation, design, and medical team to build XR experiences for industry professionals and potential patients.



  • Prototype and build next generation AR/VR products in Unity/C#

  • Build and optimize with the latest mixed reality solutions (HoloLens, Rift, HTC Vive, Meta, ARkit)

  • Develop and support engaging high-quality, polished and reliable interactive applications

  • Collaborate with team to recommend best practices for assets, pipeline, and development

  • Contribute ideas and improvements to project designs, pipelines, and tools

  • Participate in creative brainstorming sessions to develop innovative VR/AR experiences

  • Provide advice and experience to develop efficient production workflows

  • Stay current with trends in the industry and identify technical innovations.

  • Take ownership of project needs and communication.

  • Work with a cross functional team while ensuring that assigned projects are being completed in a timely manner.


Some current projects:



  • Design and develop an AR program featuring 3D imagery of the brain using the Hololens to illustrate the patient experience of the pathology and pathophysiology associated with common brain diseases.




  • Design and develop an AR program for an interactive “deep-dive” into the pathophysiology of migration, using 3D targets using an iPad.




  • Design and develop a mobile app for patients with certain lung disease to experience 3D augmented reality experience for the lung.



On every project, the developer will work closely with the UI, UX and Animation Teams to produce visually stunning, highly engaging and educational interactive programs.


Required Qualifications, Skills & Abilities:



  • 5+ years of C#/Unity 3D development experience

  • Bachelors or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field

  • Experience with mixed reality development (including VR and AR) using any platform (Microsoft HoloLens, Windows Mixed Reality, Oculus Rift, Samsung GearVR, Google Daydream, HTC Vive)

  • Strong experience in using third party APIs and SDKs

  • Experience turning concepts into highly-polished interactive programs

  • Experience with modern graphics APIs (e.g. OpenGL, DirectX, Metal, Vulkan)

  • Understanding of SLAM algorithms and usage

  • Knowledge of Dependency Injection patterns and writing loosely coupled, scalable code.

  • Exposure to mobile development

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with great attention to detail

  • Strong knowledge of OOP, design patterns and data structures

  • Experience with version control software

  • Flexibility and willingness to learn new technologies as needed

  • Ability to work well as part of a collaborative development team

  • Sample of AR/VR work to show and discuss

  • Excellent communication skills



Desired Skills and Experience:



  • Experience with object recognition and tracking a plus.

  • Experience with Kinect, Leap Motion, Gesture recognition

  • Experience with 3D depth sensors and mapping technologies

  • Experience working with 3D rendering engines (e.g. Unity 3D, Unreal Engine, CryEngine)

  • Experience using Shaderlab to write custom shaders

  • General understanding of CG Graphics: Subdivision surfaces; UV Mapping; Hierarchies; Normals

  • Experience with 2D image editing tools (Photoshop) and 3D modeling / animation tools (Maya, Modo, Blender)

  • Able to dive into complex systems and get results quickly

  • Self-motivated, good communicator and a team player

  • Mobile development experience (iOS/Android) on OSX

  • XML/JSON knowledge

  • Strong knowledge of algorithms, data structures and computer science

  • Strong understanding of GIT or related version control software

  • If you like hackathons, game jams, side projects, you are a kindred spirit

  • Experience with UI Programming, AI, Physics highly desirable

  • Knowledgeable in the application of 3D math, rendering algorithms, and data structures

  • Strong initiative and ability to work independently

  • Some Experience in mobile/web development with experience across multiple, devices (Windows, iOS, Android), tools (e.g. JavaScript, C#, Swift), and frameworks (e.g. Node.js, Angular, React)
