We are currently looking for an experienced Backend Engineer to join our Distributed Commerce team.
The Distributed Commerce team’s mission is to provide a smooth fashion commerce experience at the point of discovery: offering the right user experience wherever consumers are inspired off of Zalando. As a member of our team, you will explore the edges of the fashion ecosystem to create compelling new fashion experiences outside the normal e-commerce channels. Besides social media channels, we are exploring conversational commerce use cases with Google Assistant, chatbots and other potential platforms.

You are setting standards
Variety. You will be responsible for shaping a scalable and performant architecture of the internal systems that you will be working on.
Autonomy. Due to the size and startup-like set up of the tech team you will have the opportunity to decide together with your team on technical frameworks being used and have the opportunity to implement best practices whilst the team is growing.
Ownership. You will have an end to end responsibility of all of your projects and will focus on building scalable and cloud-ready software solutions in our AWS and API-first tech environment.
Excellence. Due to your business mindset, you are continually thinking about new ways on how to help Distributed Commerce scale through building a strong technical platform and automated business processes. You build systems for production and implement high-quality solutions, ensuring latency, availability and appropriate monitoring.
You are skilled
Experience: You are experienced in integrating external and internal API services and are excited about exploring conversational commerce technologies.
Technologies. You would like to do hands-on coding and are highly skilled in Java and Spring boot. Previous experience working in cloud environments such as in AWS is a plus. Check our Tech Radar for more information on the technologies we use.
Business mindset. You have a business mindset and are continuously thinking about new ways on how to improve Distributed Commerce through the effective and strategic development of internal systems.
Knowledge Exchange. You will lead and mentor team members in terms of best practices, code quality and tech frameworks.
