Role Description
We’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to help us build secure, reliable, and effective user experiences for our patients and our clinicians. The ideal candidate will have experience developing high quality and maintainable code, know when to be scrappy for prototyping and diligent for production, and be able to balance concurrent development of small incremental features with larger product and architectural evolution. The Senior Backend Engineer will have a keen sense and high standards for how her/his work is related to the larger system.

We’ve recently raised $23 million in a Series A round from firms like GE Ventures, Kaiser Permanente Ventures, Illumina Ventures, and Canaan Ventures.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with clinical, product, and engineering teams on feature requirements and prioritization.
- Lead the way through mentoring, coding, and code reviews.
- For products, design, develop, and maintain high-quality software.
- For prototypes and one-off projects, be willing to write scrappy code to get the job done.
- Contribute to the architectural vision and roadmap for information and systems.
- Develop and maintain a deep technical understanding of our platform. Participate in coding and code reviews.
- Make software architecture decisions that adeptly balance near-term agility and long-term maintainability.

Desired Experience
- 5+ years of full-stack experience, from application design through implementation.
- Experience in communicating with users and project managers to understand requirements, describe software product features, and technical requirements.
- Experience with (non-dogmatic) agile processes.
- Knowledge of software engineering practices including coding standards, code reviews, SCM, CI, CD, testing.
- Experience in systems architecture or similar technical leadership role.
- Experience working with remote teams.
- Experience working at startup.
- Experience with security, privacy, and compliance (HIPAA, PCI DSS, etc).
Desired Skills
- Excellent Python.
- PHP experience desirable.
- DevOps with docker, docker-compose, salt, ansible, or similar.
- Relational and key-value/document/noSQL database design and practical use.
- API/Web service design using REST, json schema, and/or GraphQL.
- AWS fundamentals and core services (S3, EC2, EBS, RDS, etc).
- Strong experience using Linux in production settings.
