Position Overview: The position is responsible to support the full Software Development Life Cycle (Requirements, Design, Implementation, Verification, Maintenance). This position uses theoretical understanding of technology to translate business needs into technical specifications. Position participates in the development of solutions using programming expertise for day-to-day problems to include maintenance, modification or development of complex inter-related applications/solutions. Solutions link technical knowledge with business, research and/or instructional solutions and may range from consulting services (software or hardware recommendations) to developing integrated automated systems.


Summary of Position Responsibilities: This position will be primarily responsible for the customization, development, extension, and integration of Atkins Library’s Integrated Library System (Alma & Primo), digital repository (Islandora), and content management system (Drupal) through the use of available APIs and front and back end development techniques. This position will work closely with library faculty and staff members throughout the entire software development life cycle to gather initial requirements, provide status updates, and deliver the final product.


Minimum Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Math, Engineering or related technical degree from an accredited institution. 2-3 years of professional experience in software development.

Demonstrable experience with:



  • Linux

  • Apache

  • PHP 5

  • MySQL

  • JavaScript

  • CSS3

  • Front-end Development

  • Strong Communication & Requirements Gathering

Preferred Education: Master of Science in Library and/or Information Science from an ALA-accredited program.
