Data Developer



We are looking for a Data Developer to join our scrum team and contribute to the delivery of high-quality API-first data solutions within the real estate domain.


This is a mid-level role where you will need to demonstrate your advanced SQL and ETL development skills, preferred development patterns and the data structures that support them.  You need the ability to adapt to changing business priorities and an understanding that change is fundamental to innovation and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities



  • Collaborate with colleagues and other teams to understand data requirements.

  • Contribute to the design of solutions that align with the overall data architecture, standards and best practices of the business.

  • Develop high-quality, testable, efficient code that that is solution aligned.

  • Contribute to the design, implementation and execution of testing strategies to ensure confidence in the implemented solution, including acceptance and exploratory testing.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of development and delivery practices within the scrum team (continuous integration, unit and integration test automation, release automation).

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of technical solutions (code optimisation, code refactoring).

  • Ensure documentation of all data processes and assets is up to date and coherent.


Key competencies



  • Strong development skills in PostgreSQL (i.e. stored procedures, query plan analysis and optimisation in addition to advanced querying).

  • Significant experience developing efficient, maintainable data pipelines and ETL processes for different types and volumes of data.

  • Skill in exploring data structures and their relationships in order to understand systems.

  • Ability to work effectively in an agile team environment and actively participate in a collaborative and supportive manner.

  • Understanding of standard software development practices (versioning, source code management, testing, code reviews).


The following will be desirable in addition to the above



  • Experience with distributed streaming data frameworks (Kafka, Spark, Storm).

  • Experience developing public-facing APIs or working within an API development team.

  • Software development experience (Java, Python, Javascript).

  • Cloud automation, orchestration or DevOps experience (AWS, ansible, puppet).

  • Unix admin and shell scripting (bash, python) experience.


Domain experience and education requirements:



  • Tertiary qualifications in computer science or equivalent industry experience.

  • Minimum 2 years commercial experience.

  • Experience with property / real estate data solutions is highly desirable.
