Who does Manager of VACT work with?
A Manager on the Video Acquisition and Compression Technology team will work daily with the Video and Network engineers and operational teams that are deploying video solutions to all of Comcast. We also work closely with the variety of on-site vendors that have a technical presence in our facilities.

What are some interesting problems you'll be working on?
In this role, you will have exposure to any and all issues that can arise within the Video Acquisition and Compression Technology team. We are the team that is instrumental in solving complex video and networking issues that come in from anywhere, whether escalated from a customer, or from other teams within Comcast that we partner with.

You'll be working with the best and brightest minds in Comcast to roll out and support the video delivery infrastructure that will power the next generation of television. Success in this role is characterized by a higher speed to market, with fewer customer-facing defects and outages.
Responsibilities:
- Monitors technical and engineering progress to ensure strategies, goals and objectives are met in an efficient manner. Communicates changes to all affected personnel.
- Manages and forecasts resource needs to meet departmental objectives. Recommends action plans or solutions to senior leadership.
- Ensures that all regional technical performance complies with industry and Company
technical requirements.
- Develops, trains, mentors, and motivates staff members in accordance with best practices and procedures developed by management.
- Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
- Works closely with technical operations staff on system design and configuration to ensure that systems conform to Comcast Video standards.
- Communicates with various technical teams across the Comcast footprint on engineering goals and strategies.
- Manages the full life cycle product development to include analysis and planning related to product development, launch and deployment.
- Creates documents for architecture, design, technical requirements and service specifications.
- Presents architecture, design, and technical choices to internal audiences.
- Demonstrates technical leadership and mentoring on the application of new technologies and system development methodologies.
- Develops requirements for the vendor community to develop solutions to meet Company application needs.
- Evaluates various architectural solutions and implementations.
- Establishes and maintains productive relationships with technology hardware and software vendors.
- Participates consultatively in the testing and certification process as needed.
- Provides direction related to the implementation of upgrades and leads efforts for sustaining video hardware and software platforms.
- Provides input into the department budget and new technology recommendations.
- Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
- Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) as necessary.

Skills & Requirements

Bachelor's degree or equivalent, plus 5 years relevant experience in transmission/distribution engineering and methodology.
- Strong communication skills verbal and written.
- Strong project management experience.
- Strong proficiency in Visio and Excel.
- CCNA preferred
- Multicast experience requested, not required.
- Good problem solving skills.
- Willing to take ownership of problems and see them through to resolution.
- Comfortable working in a fast paced environment.
