What’s does the role involve?


You will be part of the Backend team, responsible for the server-side application platform. You'll participate in the complete cycle of product development, applying your knowledge to the analysis, design, programming, implementation and maintenance stages, next to the product, frontend ande mobile teams. The position reports directly to the Head of Backend and you will have the opportunity to lead initiatives end-to-end across the squad teams.


We are looking for a highly competent Java engineer, passionate about technology, able to propose new ideas to help the platform lead the market globally, and eager to explore new technologies. You need to be proactive and work effectively as part of the team, decision-making, while also able to work efficiently and autonomously. You’ll be working as part of the vibrant and friendly Debut team in our wework co-working space near Old Street, with the opportunity to grow professionally in a start-up with a steep growth trajectory.


What skills do I need?



  • Experience building scalable and reliable server-side web services solutions.

  • Strong knowledge of the necessary languages/frameworks, mainly Java.

  • Building reusable code and libraries.

  • Optimization of the application for maximum speed and scalability.

  • Management of cloud computing solutions, ideally GAE and AWS.

  • Demonstrate the impact your work and decisions has had in your previous teams/companies with pride.

  • Manage cutting-edge technologies to improve legacy applications.

  • Experience stressing and monitoring the platform in production.


What will I be doing if I join?



  • Participate in the entire product development lifecycle, to embrace our vision of where we want to be in the short, medium and long term.

  • Contributing to and continuing to build the Backend platform at a high standard.

  • Working closely with the product team to define and discuss new features.

  • Maintaining the quality of the platform following each deploy, and monitoring crashes, stability and KPI metrics.

  • Managing shipping all the way to the Production, while keeping the product true to its values and heart.

  • Improving the development process in any way you consider appropriate.
