Security Engineer at Cottonwood Financial (Dallas, TX)

Reporting to the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), the Security Engineer plays a key role in security threat hunting, event response, and coordination of mitigating security controls. The Security Engineer works closely with the Server Engineers, Network Engineers, Developers, DBAs and the Technology Manager to monitor, identify and reduce cyber security risk at Cottonwood Financial. In addition, the Security Engineer will proactively review technical infrastructure changes to assure adequate security is maintained or enhanced. This position is based at our Administrative Office (HQ) in Irving (Las Colinas), Texas.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work closely with other functional area engineers/administrators and security specialists to ensure adequate security solutions are in place
  • Mitigate identified risks to meet business objectives and regulatory requirements
  • Security event management
  • Perform security risk assessments and develop remediation recommendations
  • Continuously evaluate the organizations existing security controls, measure security-related activities, and demonstrate concrete improvements
  • Work closely with infrastructure engineers, helpdesk, developers, and QA to identify, diagnose, and remediate security vulnerabilities
  • Enhance and maintain a balanced cyber security program
  • Perform vulnerability scans throughout the enterprise to assess security control adequacy
  • Assess disaster recovery, data replication, and distributed backup solutions for viability and effectiveness
  • Third party vendor security assessments, including documenting data elements and data flow information
  • Collaborate with CISO in managing, creating, and maintaining information security reports and dashboards

REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelors degree in MIS, Computer Science, Engineering, Computer Security, Information Systems, or related experience
  • 2+ years of hands-on network and cyber security work experience
  • Firewall administration and event monitoring experience
  • Anti-Virus / Endpoint protection deployment, tuning, and response
  • Experience with server virtualization technologies (VMware or Microsoft Hyper-V)
  • Network security experience with routers and switches
  • Knowledge of cyber application attacks and defense strategies
  • Network experience and good understanding of the Internet protocols
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Local (Dallas/Fort Worth area) candidates only no relocation
  • Must be currently authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship and not require sponsorship in the future

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ability to assess security risk, analyze results, and report results
  • Experience in Financial Services
  • Experience with SIEM monitoring and administration
  • E-mail Proxy administration
  • SIEM and IPS/IDS event response
  • Hands on experience with Active Directory and group policy support
  • Azure cloud security experience
  • Demonstrated technical competence with Anti-virus, spyware prevention and spam prevention technologies
  • Demonstrated threat hunting experience
  • Familiarity with vulnerability scanning tools and vulnerability remediation guidance
  • Beneficial certifications include CEH, GIAC, CISSP, and CISA
  • Knowledge of Application Security best practice concepts
  • Understanding of security best practices including PCI DSS, SANS CIS, and NIST
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively while contributing on multiple projects
