Position Description

The Database Architect role will be responsible for analyzing user requirements and delivering database solutions to support Health Mart Atlas products and solutions. The candidate should be proficient in the implementation of database designs, proactive monitoring and troubleshooting database servers and associated applications. The candidate also oversees database access methods, access time, batch processes, space allocation and system resource usage; documents database architecture, work flow, security protection methods, backup/restore methods, important procedures and statistical methods. The role is an integral part of the Health Mart Atlas team, collaborating with software architects, software developers, QA analysts, product owners, and Scrum masters to understand business and industry requirements and deliver value to McKesson pharmacies.

Key Responsibilities


Participates in the designing, implementing, testing, release, and maintenance of business applications and databases.
Advises software development/QA teams on database design and performance optimization.
Administers and maintains integrity of production, QA and development databases.
Provides technical guidance to IT personnel in the investigation, analysis and resolution of database problems.
Implements procedures for database backup/restores. Conducts restore tests periodically to verify backups and restoration performance.
Implements security procedures to protect company databases and applications including access control and data encryption/masking procedures. Supports regular auditing reviews and change control review.
Monitors databases and their subsystems on all platforms to ensure optimal performance
Develops automation scripts that perform routine and complex database maintenance tasks
Maintains database related documentation

Minimum Requirements


4+ years of experience in database administration or architecture


Critical Skills


A DevOps mindset
Experience with supporting enterprise SQL-based relational databases and data warehouses, managing database configurations, replication, migrations, backup, and disaster recovery.
Knowledge of both UI-based and CLI interfaces for database and data file management.
Experience with Microsoft Windows Server.
Experience writing PowerShell scripts.
Database/Application monitoring.
Database/Application tuning.
Database Backups/Recovery.
Experience creating database automation scripts and procedures.
Excellent communication and documentation skills.
Experience with Microsoft SQL Server.
Experience with NoSQL databases and in-memory databases is highly desired.
Create and enforce database development standards.
Developing and maintaining SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) packages.

Additional Knowledge and Skills


Healthcare or pharmaceutical industry experience.
Cloud platform experience (Azure preferred).
Concourse CI/CD is a plus.
Serverless technologies.
Software development experience in an agile environment.
Source control with git.

Education

4-year degree in computer science or related field or equivalent experience. MS or BS in Computer Sciences or Engineering preferred.
