Job Summary

The Assistant Vice President, Information Technology provides leadership in the operations, direction, and coordination of the Operations & Enterprise Systems and the Windows Enterprise Group & Support Center, to best serve the needs of users. The AVP works closely with IT senior leadership to ensure that efforts within IT are coordinated and executed strategically and collaboratively communicated across the division.

Duties include:

      Provides leadership in the direction and operations of the Operations & Enterprise Systems and the Windows Enterprise Group & Support Center.

      Leads organizational transformation of IT systems operations from traditional functional management of technology to modern methods including cloud computing, DevOps, and agile delivery methodologies.

      Develops strategic relationships with various constituencies across the University as well as in the higher education community and the corporate community. 

      Works closely with VP and CIO in the development of University wide strategic technology plans. Develops presentations and delivers information to the University community.

      Directs development and execution of high-performance computing, high speed networks, data storage systems, and cloud computing to support enterprise-wide research initiatives.

      Remains current with technological developments and evaluates the feasibility of incorporating the newest solutions into the University technology infrastructure.

      Identifies and seeks external funding opportunities, grants, or partnerships with research faculty.

      Collaborates with the VP and CIO and the leadership team to set priorities related to IT projects. Negotiates the resources involved, timeframes required, and possible impact to other initiatives or projects. Secures appropriate resources as required and approved.

      Serves as a member of the Division of ITs leadership team by participating in planning, budgeting, staffing, salary administration and internal procedures.

      Builds strong partnerships with peers in the Division of ITs leadership team to help foster a team culture.

      Promotes innovative, efficient, effective and shared uses of information technology across the University

      Develops a core set of well-defined enterprise platform products to be incorporated into front-facing services for the FIU community.

      Interprets and applies pertinent rules, regulations, policies and procedures set forth by the university or other governing agencies.

      Researches and recommends innovative, and, where possible, automated approaches for system administration tasks. Identifies approaches that leverage existing resources and provides economies of scale.

      Leads team with a focus on operational excellence, improving processes, accelerating process timelines, developing employees and being a change champion throughout the organization and on campus.

      Directs development and execution of disaster recovery and business continuity plans.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, information management or equivalent field with of eight (8) years of experience in IT management.

Desired Qualifications

      10 years of work experience in higher education/information technology is preferred. At least of which five years must be in a leadership, decision-making position.

      Demonstrated expertise in high performance computing, high speed networks, data storage systems, and cloud computing is preferred.

      Demonstrated management of various operating systems such as Windows and Linux.

      Experience with Private and Public Cloud.

      Experience with Identity Management utilizing tools such as CAS and Azure AD.

Advertised Salary: Starting at $155,000, salary is commensurate with experience and education.
